He'd be lucky if he could've done that. The steel industry was dying right around the time Mike was becoming an adult. More than likely Mike would've been dead or in jail had they not gotten out of Gary. He was a young man in the late 70s early 80s he could've easily fell in with one of the gangs or become a drug dealer or an fiend. They were born into a tough situation. Joe did what he felt was necessary to his kids from becoming statistics.

Real shyt. The book talked about how Tito was walking to school and got robbed at gunpoint by a gangmember. She wouldn't even let her kids play at the field behind their house if the gangs were back there hanging out. She didn't even let her kids go to school on the last day because kids/gang members would look to settle beef and do crazy shyt on the last day. Gary was gang/drug ridden in those days

Not everything that he did, or how he did it. He went a little overboard whipping his kids asses for missing a dance step, or some of the other acts he did, but he got his family out the hood. He's the reason that his family is worth a couple Billion dollars. Everybody has internal issues. Joe's parenting methods weren't to insure that they wouldnt have issues, he made sure they grew up to be somebody in life.

Its all perspective. I gotta uncle who lived across the street from the Jacksons from 1956-1965. He was born in 48 so he was a little older then Mike but he played ball with Jackie and Tito and some other cats from the neighborhood. He told me that they were normal kids and Joe was a normal guy. The only time they thought of Joe as mean is when lil nikkas would try to get at his eldest daughter Rebbie. Other than that, shyt was normal.

He said he saw Joe snatch up one of em a few times but it was normal cause all the fathers were like that.

He had stories for days about them cause his father and Joe worked together for a while.
