Thats Bernie's fault, honestly. He was irresponsible with how he allowed himself to be framed and inadvertently capped real chances for the left to make credible gains outside of primarying safe blue districts.

You gotta know the territory you're playing with and thusly why Warren was the right candidate for the moment.

Politics is more than positioning, its delivery and threading the needle.

I think it goes both ways. The party can also admit that it needs to present some progressive policies in order to win back disillusioned voters. Bernie’s conviction in his position perhaps made it difficult to dress him up as a centrist candidate for all but the fact is that him and his movement are still necessary in order for Biden to win. Bernie’s failure is also as much the miseducation of generations to what Socialism is if not more than it was his own failure to be more centrist.

Biden saying he’s for the public option is big imo. I woulda took a PO from Obama if they couldn’t get Single Payer done. If Biden can and will do it that’s big for a younger voter like me. Bernie’s involvement in the race and pushing Biden more to the left gon end up helping him in the end.

Confiscating private property and dictating its use at the level that would be required for the sort of rural land use transformation you're talking about would certainly be full-blown socialism. You would be talking about a transfer of the means of production from the individual to the government at a scale unprecedented in our nation's established history.

I struggle to see the political will for that sort of massive transformation. And if it did happen...who would control it? Because wealthy politicians in DC don't have all that much more invested in healthy forests than the corporations do, which is a big reason why even Democratic environmental management has been absolute dogshyt in the Clinton and Obama Administrations.

Government fiddles with zoning all the time. The means of production would simply be relocated/centralized where possible. The government isn't taking over production.

Well there certainly seems to be a better understanding, interest, and necessity than 10-20 years ago.


The majority of my post here got deleted for some reason. I read the article about Oregon. The state screwed their counties and lobbying did the rest. I never advocated for corporations/hedge funds etc taking over the land. I don't support any of that and in theory it can be undone. That said are these rural dying communities sustainable even with local control? So many resources being committed to hundreds of people? But you're willing to mine Africa to the bones so people can use electric cars?

People were already there in those places, they were called Native Americans.

I don’t get it either. I think he can deepen his bag. If he’s seen as defending himself against childish attacks and is very successful at turning it against Trump with a bit of his own medicine he’d have Trump dead to rights right there and viewers would look at it as Biden defending himself against a bully. You can’t treat him like a normal candidate, you have to be ready for his ramblings with clever counters that’ll have Trump more unhinged and on his heels.
