This thread will probably separate the casual listener from the producers and producer-heads. People that don't care about the shop-talk of producing, or crate digging, or how samples were flipped can debate about whose music they enjoy more, and that's fine. In that department, there's definitely an argument that Kanye's beats on Blueprint were more enjoyable that Just Blaze's beats on there. But there's also a deeper level, and if you don't care about that level, then cool.
But the way that Girls, U Don't Know, and Song Cry were made shows a level above the way the Heart of the City, Takeover, Never Change, and Izzo were made.
Nothing wrong with being a casual listener, but cats like Just Blaze and Nottz are your favorite producer's favorite producers.
Yo, Just Blaze had like 70 chops in here, and it sounds seamless....
It should start at 8:09
This is art not sports, it's about what sounds the best.
That Kanye had Timbo re-do the drums for Stronger 50 times doesn't affect how good the music sounds. Or that he lately has 20 producers on a track, doesn't make it more advanced-sounding than a Just Blaze song. Who can flip a sample the best is irrelevant if the beat or especially the song isn't better. That's more about computer programming skills, a la new techno producers. That's impressive technical skills, but from a musical standpoint it's nothing unless you got the musical talent of Just Blaze. And I don't think Just is anyones favorite producers favorite producer, never heard Dr. Dre, Rza or Premo call just their favorite producer.
And on the The Blueprint comparisons, I always thought Girls remix was better.
As far as heads up for me
Best Come home with me: Tie between Dead or Alive and The Roc
Best Purple Haze: No Blaze beats but Dipset Forever and Down and Out were probably the best beats
Best BP: Impossible to say, I'm leaning towards Just's performance but Kanye's songs were better which makes it hard.
Best Beans: Nothing Like it,
Best Beans: Face and Jay: Guess who's back (beat) > This can't be life > Some how some way
Best Drake: Lord Knows
Best RnB: You don't know my name
Best BP2: Poppin Tags
Best TBA: Encore/Lucifer > TBA/December 4th
What else?
Looks pretty even, on a beat level, who did the chopping better is just chopping skills. Kanye's thing is that he could rather get someone to do it for him, he's trying to make the best music. And I have to believe that producers value creativity, vision and ear as much as they do computer programming skills.
Now add that Kanye/Common has about 4-5 albums that millions of people call straight classics.
That's what does it for me, that they can go beat for beat and it's even on the scattered shyt while Kanye also has half a dussin fully produced albums.
