if you have a one track mind to play in the league, your eyes are not even open to the lessons and ambition that school can bring. Sure you can get by, inside school, not learning much, but if you embrace it and use all resources, you can really enhance yourself.

and I’m not talking about even being doctor/lawyer type learning, just to introduce yourself to as much avenues as possible to be inspired by something, and let that inspiration and drive guide you to success, not only monetary, but to just be a more well rounded individual. It allows for better socialization and interaction, because you have more to speak on… I understand education and school is two different things, but a setting surrounded by like minded driven individuals, discussed value of academic topics while learning about things you are not immediately introduced to at a time when minds are developing, that’s invaluable

Regardless of whether or not LaMelo "should" have gone to school, the entire quote is just ignorant. He's hardly even making a coherent argument - there are 5-6 sentences there but he's just rambling. Doesn't do a great job of demonstrating his point.






Whether college prepares you for some particular job is one thing, but unless you went to some scam for-profit school, if you went to college and were prepared enough and still didn't learn anything, that's on you. I can still remember shyt from every fukking university course I ever took. If you can't take advantage of the opportunities to learn in college with all that in front of you, you're probably not gonna spend the rest of your life taking opportunities to learn either.

Nowhere in that interview did Melo mention top prospects. You’re making that assumption from his comments.

Don’t forget at one point and time, a lot of dudes used to skip college to play pro basketball that weren’t even considered top prospects.

He is exclusively talking about the players who WILL be in the nba. Not hoop dreams of doing it. That’s why he said “we” in his quote. He didn’t go to college so he clearly isn’t talking about all collegiate athletes not going to school. He’s talking about the ones who’s career path are professional athletics.
