He definitely doesn't love basketball and probably was told he'd be great at it because he was tall, black, and athletic. Seems like he has other passions and dreams in life that he would like to explore and playing ball would be a hindrance in fulfilling them. Playing ball probably made his depression and anxiety worse, so I can't fault him for making a drastic decision. Definitely reminiscent of Bison Dele/Brian Williams.
