Pippen still played half a season, and the Bulls had a # of role players to pick up the slack on the defensive end in the games he didn't play. Jordan had the luxury where he didn't need to bust his ass on both ends of the floor during the regular season/postseason - he conserved most of his energy for offense.

That Bulls squad had a # of strong defensive pieces with Mensa-BBIQ, a great scheme / best help defense in the league. MJ wasn't the anchor of it, and he didn't shoulder the majority of the perimeter defensive reps, so explain to me what other reason could he have got that selection?
