It's as if no one understands precedent. Kobe had an amazing season and indeed carried bums to the playoffs. That generally isn't enough for MVP though. Yes it's a team award. Yes it's as much about whats around you (actually more so really) than it is about what you do yourself. Some of the greatest seasons ever, even greater than Kobe's didn't get MVP.
Based on that criteria Shaq should've got it in 04 and Nash getting it in 05 was acceptable considering Amare was out. We all know who the best player was and we don't need any bias, narrative driven award to tell us.

scored more, shot higher from the field obviously, anchored the laker defense, led his team to a better record in a tougher conference, and did it while playing his way into shape. It can be argued that was a big a robbery of the award as 1997 or 2011

Because it's most valuable player not guy on the best team, I just find it funny how Westbrook is getting so much consideration this year when his team would have worse seed than Kobes. NBA either should give it to best player on best team or do something like baseball and give it to best player despite the record.
