Let's talk about how the south lowered the standard of lyricism in hip hop...

This is completely false. Scarface, Outkast, and K-otix killed every verse back in the 90's.

and how this lie, really covered up that NYC mixtape rappers are what killed it.

The mid 2000's saw nothing but hundreds of NYC rappers spewing out punchlines after punchlines on mixtapes to the point nobody wanted to hear that shyt anymore.

While y'all wanna talk about how such and such southern rapper can barely rap... we were getting weekly trash punchlines from Papoose, to the point where it became a near decade long joke.

We completely ignore how countless NYC rappers, could rap for days...but couldn't make good songs( and no, being able to rap very well on a track≠good song making)

Take a look back at some of them SMACK DVD era rappers, bars and punchlines for days.....but making a song that people would want to listen to on the radio :russ:

Southern rappers may have a lower "standard" of lyricism, but they were far better at crafting songs than your run of the mill NYC rapper of the time.

:russ::russ::russ::russ::russ:@ y'all thinking i was gonna shyt on the south for something NYC did.

LOL @ southern rappers "crafting songs". I guess I was too dumb to appreciate the underlying brilliance of songs like Laffy taffy, MIKE JONES!, lil johns crunk slaps, get silly, soulja boy, etc.

nah breh, you were just too dumb to realize they made songs for specific things.

If you heard the bassline from Bia Bia, i'd bet you'd run off the dancefloor.

In your mind, because it's construction is basic/simple= it's weak/dumb....when in reality, you overthought the music.

I mean, how are you too hip hop to appreciate fighting and women shaking their ass and titties?

NEW YORK CITY

Let's take a dude like Serious Jones for example (even tho he's from Jersey...but NYC claims Jersey when they want to)
Bars/Punchlines for Days, could murk any freestyle on any DJ's mixtape.

but couldn't make a radio single...much less a normal song to save his life.

that was the case for about 90% of them dudes.

When do you see nyc doing this? And this thread is :pacspit:

The west coast has been dead for the longest until kendrick lamar. That's apart of his appeal really. Being that WC dude that hip hop can finally get behind again

:what: that's pretty sus

You should have realized that rap music is party music 1st and foremost and always will be.

If you can't respect artist being able to get a whole club moving no matter the region then rap isn't for you

The South isn't really to blame for anything. I think the explosion of Southern Hip Hop was sorta like a right place at the right time type of deal. A lot of the rise of the Southern Hip Hop too came from the lack of clearing samples where a lot of NY Producers were taking hits on the Publishing side as with a lot of the Trap / Chop and Screwed sound dealt with a lot of Synthy keyboard sounds but eliminated the cost of clearing samples putting more money not only in the Producer / Artists pockets...but also the labels. On top of the fact that a lot of the music from the South wasn't geared towards lyrics / content more than just making club bangers, it was clear a trend would follow.

I think the problem NY (for the most part) had was trying to piggy back off the success the South "sound" had created, but at the same time I think a little of NY's identity was lost. Hip Hop to me was a lot better when you had distinct sounds from different parts of the country and it made the music that much more diverse. :manny: NY, LA, GA can all have party records, but they shouldn't all sound identical to the other.
