A.are you seriously comparing lil wayne
to DMX??
and for the record, tha block is hot(the song) was indeed an IT record. arguably his most legendary single to this day, in regards to hip-hop.
the problem is, his album was half-ass.
plus, like I said, wayne is a bad comparison anyway, seeing that he wasn't taken seriously.
1.) BE SMART SON
1A.) of course doggfather sold out the gate. it was the long-awaited follow-up to doggystyle. but the reaction to the album was horrendous.
1B.) you could put snoop in a room with 99% of current rappers right now in 2017, and he would be more noticeable. does that mean that snoop is hot in 2017 as well?
2/3.) I'm not talking about the top of '98. I'm talking about by the time DMX album dropped.
2.) are you really serious with this busta rhymes stuff?
3.) lol @ me hating on silkk the shocker. I'm one of his biggest fans on this board.
4.) reasonable doubt was 2 years old at this point. and volume 1 was a serious disappointment and was another one of the bigger sophomore slumps of the latter part of the '90s.
5.) cmon man
6,) name me a standout rap album produced by timbaland. name me a rap artist that built their career with his production.
7.tical 2000 = another album that sold because of the artists' name carrying over from mid-90s accomplishments.
8.youre too focued on numbers, and what makes it worse, is that youre not willing to put any perspective behind them. that's really the problem here.
9.how did RR Anthem make X when he was already the man before the video even dropped?
and the bad boy/shiney suits ish was already over once "get at me dog" and the album dropped.
10.like I said, RR Anthem made him a crossover superstar, but in hip-hop, he was already the IT rapper.
