If he aint filling up arenas and creating buzz, then it was wasted on his waist. They were in a war for company survival...Shawn was a joke...that's why they brought in Tyson. It was like the Miz situation at WM 27....they added Rock to save themselves since Cena nor Miz meant anything on PPV.

Miz is the one who meant nothing on PPV. Cena has always been a draw but Miz's struggle title reign needed a boost. Plus they needed Rock to start hyping up the Rock vs. Cena match for next year.

that's really not how i remember it, but admittedly i wasn't a smark yet. i was only 13. i genuinely believed shawn was a bad dude. the champ. a huge challenge for austin.

i just assumed tyson was brought in just to make it even bigger, not to compensate for shawn.

Cena was barely getting ratings up and it meant nothing once it went 3 hours. He wasn't filling up arenas. If he was as big as they said, Taker wouldn't have been what they pushed over him at Mania till Rock came back...they even pushed Blandy vs Cripple H over him at the anniversary at WM 25 and put him in a filler match. Lol

Are you serious, man? Tyson vs Austin was on ESPN and had everyone talking...Shawn was like Kofi Kingston to the mainstream media.

of course i remember tyson and austin being a huge deal.

but i don't think vince would have passed on the opportunity to bring in tyson no matter who was main eventing. i don't think it was "oh shyt hbk isn't a draw we need to go bigger. bring in mike tyson".

but hey i could be wrong.

Hall was never a top anything so I'm not sure what you're basing your comparison of him vs Michaels in that role upon. We did see them in a high profile babyface vs babyface match at Summerslam 95 though. If your analysis is correct, then I would expect the fans to have solidly cheered Razor over Michaels and booed/struggle-popped when HBK grabbed the belt. That didn't happen, so I can only conclude that you are in fact wrong

Yall Heaven bottom dudes:rudy:

It's well known that during the new generation era The WWF title was Razors if he wanted it.But he liked to party and didn't want the responsibilities of being champ..the fans in the garden(WWE's main building) all chantrd please don't go to razor before he left...mean while when HBK was on top the fans chose Sid over him.

Yall gotta realize HBK was a dope talent back then but he wasnt the man the fan base wanted. Which is why its probably for the best that he retired because they needed something to compete with during the MNW but HBK sure as hell wasn't going to beat the NWO/WCW story back then.

you agree he could have been better used as a heel though right?

So let me try and follow your argument.

Bringing in Rock for WM 27 is evidence that neither participant in the main event (Cena, Miz) could draw. So in order to be logically consistent, them bringing in Tyson for WM 14 is evidence that neither Michaels NOR Austin could draw. That's your take on it?

Shawn was hilarious until he found Jesus and tried to repent for being an a$$hole.

He was approaching Ric Flair nuclear heat, but he "lost his smile" and went to rehab.

Still, him and Bret were real life foils to each other...and that's the best wrestling to blur the lines with.

They were terrific, and they knew it, too. What could have been, if Shawn held his shyt together...

The WCW/nWo storyline was basically over when Shawn retired. So nothing that happened after he retired could be said to "beat the WCW/nWo storyline". Austin vs McMahon didn't beat the WCW/nWo storyline. They happened at different times. Austin's run on top competed with the "nWo turns on each other" story throughout 1998.

Fans have turned on The Rock way more times than they ever went against HBK as a babyface (that one night at SS basically). What are we to make of that?

Yeah he was great heel but at the same time HBK was heel since 92 how much of a difference could he have made as heel. I'm a Bret Hart Stan and loved their rivalry but there was nothing outside of Austin or Rock ascension to the top that was beating Turner.

HELL YEAH it was a "OH shyt..Shawn ain't a big draw. Let's bring in Tyson by ANY MEANS NECESSARY". What the hell? Shawn was a loser. Dude wasn't even wrestling on TV anymore. He didn't mean nothing. He was a joke champion.
