If you hear this and take away that E-40 is trash lyrically your ears are trash tbr

Extendos, cinnamon rolls, Pillsbury big biscuits
Seven point six twos, and five point five sixes
Telling is prohibited, snitches witness, turn a blind eye and a deaf ear
You prolly wanna mind your business, act like you can't see or hear
A tisket, a tasket, now the fukk nikka in a casket
My money stretched like elastic, serving that tragic magic
That nasal candy that nostril dust, you don't really wanna go to war with us
ashes to ashes, dust to dust, bringing in work in U-Haul trucks
Got more bags than Kris Kringle
Puffing on a spliff of bowinkle
Manipulate a broad with the lingo
She let me hit it, we ain't even have to mingle
All up in her panties like a single
Put it down like a mandingo
Having my chips like Reno
Guns longer than the neck on a flamingo
If you ready already then you ain't gotta get ready
I'm out here selling that becky, bout my chalupa, my fetti
Hoping the law don't catch me gritting, out here pushing that white
Serving fiends smoking outta homemade pipes
I'm a thug from the mud, I got the block in my blood
I take the top off the bottle and drink up all of the suds
down and dirty about mine, I put some cheese on ya thoughts
some bread on ya head, no matter the cost

Like I said in an earlier post my decision was based more so of the fact that I wasn't a big fan and not because he's actually trash, but to address one of your points there was a lot of heat dropping in 88...so much that if someone was to call Ice T (let's say average instead of trash) would they be wrong? I will admit that when I made this thread it was from the premise of how artists can be lyrically dope today but fans (new and old school fans) will call them trash while at the same time give legends a pass that were at the very best average. I agree with you that would should hold the pioneers in high regard, but I also feel like we shouldn't shyt on new artist today because the social environment of life is vastly different than what it was in the 80's and 90's

agree with the last part 100%..

Nah Guru wasn't basic. He was a good lyricist. His style was monotone and he didn't really flip flows but his rhymes were on point.

Rest in peace to Guru, but he was 100% trash...

Because his style was so basic, his songs aged a lot better than rappers who had hotter styles. Do you know how many times we wold listen to Gangstarr songs and wonder how much better they would be if "this or that" rapper got a hold of that beat.

E-40

i mean there's a lot of feelings getting hurt and that's why i hate some of these threads but if we're being real, doesn't take away from their artistry though, they can make great songs, it's kind of like Rodman, he wasn't a scorer but a great defender and rebounder. Being an artist that can make hits is far more important in longevity than being lyrical anyway so.. :yeshrug:

Master P was the first name that came to mind but mostly because of his 2Pac clone era

Havoc was meh but i'm listening to Mobb for his beats not his rhymes

Nore and 2Pac weren't really good rappers but they had good ears for beats and a certain level of authenticity/sincerity in their music that makes up for it

I only really liked his rhymes on the female songs...and on "Code of the Streets".

Remember Gangstarr's best music was in the golden era early 90s....Rakim,Kane and Krs were still hot...Naughty Hit Squad, ,ATCQ,DeLA,LONS,Cypress era

He and Premier made good music but his bars weren't winning in that era.

Here's a funny story. There was a Gangstarr affiliate named Big Shug....out of Boston. He appeared on a Gangstarr project and Guru gave him an intro "hey, big shug....we want to hear you on the mic, but you can't be disappointing me"

WE LAUGHED FOR a MONTH straight over GURU saying don't disappoint ME.
