a bigger overall string of hits?
Brandy didn't have a string of hits on this calibre until she dropped her second album which was led by a duet with Monica. No one can deny the impact of "The Boy Is Mine" when it dropped, and both Brandy and Monica both benefited huge from it. But between them, But you can't compare any "Brandy" singles with Aaliyah's rendition of "At Your Best." It's funny, I did a google search looking for opening week sales and found this quote on Brandy's self-titled debut
Now here's facts: Neither "Brandy" nor "Miss Thang" had a higher peak on the Billboard Charts than "Age Ain't Nothin." Only "Brandy" outsold it. Brandy ATE off of her duet with Monica and went 4x platinum with Never Say Never....One In A Million still outsold The Boy Is Mine.
Now here is where I address your BOLD lie when you say "lets not act like that last album she dropped wasnt shoved to the side before she died." To this I say...STOP THE fukkING LIES. Aaliyah dropped to critical acclaim, dropped at number 2 at the Billboard charts, and sold 200,000 copies first week...most things she'd NEVER done before in her career. Add on the fact that she was already in a movie that was more widely recognized than Moesha (and by that I mean outside the hood), was cast in an important role in BOTH Matrix flicks...yeah, u should probably stfu breh.
Oh, and Full Moon (Brandy's third album) only sold 156k first week. Never Say Never didn't even sell 200k out the gate, and that's the biggest album out of all three artists.
So I'm sorry, I have to laugh at the notion that Monica was #2 in the mainstream....I'm sorry, I have to laugh at the notion that a singer who would be acting in one of the biggest movie trilogies would fail to be bigger than two R&B singers who couldn't do anything beyond black sitcoms and awful tv movies (unless we're counting I Still Know What You Did Last Summer).
I think you're confusing what some ppl are saying. No one is saying Aaliyah's career was some unmeasurable feat that only Beyonce has passed. But to act like she wasn't something special until she died. Stop it slime. More than anyone else mentioned in the thread, she had lasting material. The fact that nikkas will go 20 years and still WANT to listen to shyt Aaliyah released in her first two albums is something you probably can't say about Brandy or Monica (but you definitely can't say about Beyonce)
You know what's interesting.....Aaliyah did 200,000 first week, 330,000 if you counting world wide on her last joint. Brandy nor Monica ever did that

), was cast in an important role in BOTH Matrix flicks...yeah, u should probably stfu breh.

I already addressed this but it's funny seeing nikkas go unchecked for being wrong. The only time Aaliyah got outsold is when Monica and Brandy teamed up for a hit. And even then only Brandy really outsold her. Monica has never outsold Aaliyah in her life...her highest selling album is the only time she ever outsold I Care 4 You (a posthumous album with like 3 new tracks). Brandy only ever outsold Aaliyah after The Boy Is Mine dropped as a single with Never Say Never.

post by the way.
