-lol @ dude trying to say that brandy's 1st big hit was "the boy is mine". im f**kin done.
-aalyiah's album sales for her 3rd joint(i cant even remember the name of it) were indeed dissappointing. THERE WAS TALK OF THIS BACK THEN. DONT LET THE SALES-SPIKE NUMBERS 1ST WEEK NUMBERS FOOL YOU. and even with the sales-spike, she still wouldnt have sold near the amount of the 1st 2 joints if she hadnt died. dude said it all when he posted the numbers from the week of her death. thanks for proving my point lil buddy.
-lol @ dude saying monica's album in '03 wasnt popular. fugg outta here. it was more popular than aalyiah's last chit, at least until she died.
-and monica is still poppin til this day, whereas aaliyah would be forced to make pop music to stay "relevant" just like usher.
-to the other dude, monica was a bit more mainstream than aalyiah in the mix of the '90s. monica was getting more love from events like soul train and she was getting nods at more mainstream events where aaliyah would barely get any(if at all) like the AMAs, grammys, etc.
-the difference being that monica is a legit singer and brandy was a good enough vocalist. aalyiah was moreso a studio gangster. most of what im saying is stuff that was understood.
-so even if aalyiah outsold monica(if thats even true), then sure as hell nobody noticed. its just like with rap. its all about sales. my dudes D.R.S. outsold alot of niccas and they had no type of footing when it comes to status in the game.
-i find it funny how the same people that are trying to prop aalyiah up to new levels are some of the same folks that are always wondering "what happened to mainstream r&b"? nicca YOU happened. lol.
That's just speculation unless there's proof that her label actually had higher expectations. Aaliyah's previous album was a slow seller.
What Aaliyah could've, should've, or would've been if she were still here is all speculation.
Aaliyah's impact was acknowledged while she was alive and she was considered a legitimate singer even if she wasn't an elite vocalist.

Yeah, read up. Particularly the years 1995-'99.
post by the way.
