i dont understand why you little imbecile's are always so hellbent on comparing aalyiah to beyonce. you can tell whos 14 years old in here.

beyonce is supposed to be a top 1 or top 2 female r&b artist right now. aalyiah was never close to such status. she wasnt even in the top 2 in her specific lane. this is like saying "would rick ross be where he is now if freaky tah(no disrespect) was still alive?". what makes it even worst is that beyonce was already bigger than aalyiah before she died. and it wasnt arguable either.

lets be real, we just like aalyiah's music better because she had r.kelly behind her, and later on timbaland & missy. hell, some of you idiots dont even remember when she was under r.kelly. you just know he smashed. thats why hes barely mentioned in these threads, yet timbo & missy are steadily sprinkled in these posts.:skip:

First album dropped in 94 sold 3Ms last album in 2001 sold 3M and a posthumous album selling about 2M.

So her career alive was 7 years between debut and last album, the fukk is short? That's 1 year less than The Beatles.
To be multiplatinum relevant for 7 years is not a short time and nothing indicated that she was gonna fall of.

People forget that she was an international superstar, not some underground soul singer.

:pachaha: @ these fake @$$ numbers.

lol @ aalyiah being an international superstar.

Just listenin to some Aaliyah stuff

Aaliyah - for grown men and women, music you actually can listen to

Beyonce - 11-14 white girls, 14-19 slacker fat dry c*nt black hoes nobody wants to be around with, and few insecure ugly duckling type

smh @ this racist chit at the end. stick to talking about taylor swift and leave the r&b threads to the big dogs.

and i hate to burst your bubble(actually i dont hate to do it) but aalyiah didnt make any dam grown-folks music. her music was geared towards the same exact demographic as beyonce's music. and lets be real, beyonce made way more grown folk songs than aalyiah.

I honestly don't know, I don't check for B that much actually, but one thing I do know is that back then EVERYBODY was listening to Aaliyah, Beyonce gives me the impression she's more of a pop superstar, Aaliyah was straight hip-hop, except she was singing...but again, I don't really check for B like that (which proobably means something)

And while nostalgia obviously clouds some of our judgement, let's not act as if she wasn't killing it BEFORE dying, people here comparing her to Ciara and them :stopitslime: back then only solo concureence in that lane was Brandy and Monica, and IMO Aaliyah was bigger/better than both. (Damn whatever happened to Monica tho :to:)

RIP Baby Girl and I'm with X on this one, :pacspit: @ :heh:

:what:

monica is still droppin hits on the regular.

no aalyiah was not as big as monica or brandy.

and yes, ciara is a more realistic comparison to aalyiah than beyonce is.

it was discussed. At the end of the day what does it matter if Aaliyah's tracks were still better? :dwillhuh:

i dont mean to go hard on ole girl. i just hate revisionist history. and this thread is chock full of it.:ld: that and a bunch of people that know they dont know chit about r&b outside of 5 or 6 names that the media embedded into their psyche. make a thread about somebody else, and that chit is lucky to go 2 pages.

im still laughing at homeboy posting the :ducktales: album sales and claiming that aalyiah was an international superstar.

in reality, destinys child was doing major international tours while aalyiah was alive. aalyiah wouldnt have been able to headline a major venue tour in her best markets in the states. the best i recall her doing was when she was dam near curtain-jerker status on that mary j/bone thugs tour.

This is not right, Aaliyah was at the fore front of the new jack swing and was RnB/hiphop way before the huge cross over mainstream appeal. Beyonce is/was big but Aaliyah was also and more loved to be honest.

nah my dude. aalyiah was never at the forefront of r&b.

and certainly not new jack swing, which was pretty much dead by the time aalyiah debuted.

and modern-day r&b was at its peak in the early-mid 90s, before aalyiah's debut(which really didnt sell much despite r.kelly holding her hand), specifically hip-hop influenced r&b.

the "one in a million" album was the only aalyiah joint that had standout success, and even then, there were alot bigger things going on in r&b.

it was discussed. At the end of the day what does it matter if Aaliyah's tracks were still better? :dwillhuh:

at the end of the day, you just like aalyiah's music better because of her production & writing teams.

i do too, but i seem to be one of the few people in here that understands why i prefer to listen to aalyiah over beyonce.

to sum it up, theres nothing that aalyiah did that any ole chick with just enough talent couldnt do. if this is supposed to be a beyonce hate-thread, then theres plenty of better pawns to use than aalyiah.

she traded a lot of her style to stay relevant. Aaliyah never done this.

So Aaliyah didn't go from wearing baggy clothes to more revealing clothing?

Beyonce has sold more than 75M albums, one of the best selling artists of all time. That number doesn't include the 50M Destiny's Child sold.

Look at any of the other female artists up there on that list:

Madonna
Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Janet Jackson

Their style changed a lot.

No

Beyonce went from church going talented girl with decent clothing in videos to acting like a stripper to follow rihanna's route. Her numbers have falling drastically thats why she teamed with lady gaga doing euro pop dance music just like rihanna (even with the slutty behavior)

like i said since Jay, Her shine went down ... She did all that bra and panties and paparazzi chasing and switching her style to get her shine back.
