lets not act like destinys child was TLC or en vogue. they were basically the supremes where one member gets shine and the rest are stuck playing the back jack. matthew didnt have them playing team ball over there. destinys child was basically the beyonce show.

kelly & michelle didnt start to shine until the last album before beyonce dropped her solo joint. and thats prolly only because of all the negative feedback surrounding the way the group was handled and how all 452 of the members were stuck in the background(and all of them were dope. that group couldve been even better if treated like a group). do you not remember wendy williams coining the infamous "beyonce & the girls" phrase in the middle of her beyonce interview?

i dont remember any doubters concerning beyonce going solo. she was expected to go solo and be pushed to the moon for a good 3 years before her solo dropped. did they call in reinforcements? maybe. but they had high hopes for beyonce. they were trying to push her to icon status. so yea they did handle her a bit differently.

alicia keys? YES. thats a much better argument. i dont understand why alicia keys isnt used as the pawn to chit on beyonce. no arguments there at all.

ashanti? hell yea, ashanti was up there with beyonce & alicia for a period of time. shes the example of a not-so-good singer that you still cant take much away from because shes a writer and actually made a big contribution to her success.

thats why people keep bringing up the fact that aalyiah didnt write. not because we're holding singers to hip-hop standards, but because aalyiah really didnt do anything period. she wasnt a good vocalist. she wasnt a good performer. she couldnt dance. what did she do? she was basically a packaged artist that just knew how to play her position and vibe to the track well. writing would be compensation for her shortcomings but she didnt even do that. thus, we shall continue to bring this up.:smugfavre:

Its fukking retarded to compare group accomplishments (Destiny's Child) to the accomplishments of a solo artist (Aaliyah) because 9 times out of 10, the people in the group are in a group because they weren't good enough to be solo.

Like for real, who willingly signs up to have their money split 3-4 ways, always having to consult others before making major decisions & not being able to write what they want without considering the other group mates. Who signs up for that shyt? :skip: People who have to :skip: If Beyonce was good enough to be on her own at 16, 17....Columbia would've put her ass out. She wasn't :mjpls: Let it go. They groomed her with DC & when they were popular enough, Beyonce branched off. We're basically in agreement on this, you're just lookin at it with rose-colored glasses instead of what it really was.

And nah. I definitely remember people questioning whether Bey could stand on her own. Her first single from the Austin Powers movie didn't take off how they wanted.......the "Work It Out" joint. In contrast, Aaliyah's Try Again from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack was everywhere in 2000 & Are You That Somebody from the Klumps soundtrack was everywhere in 1998. Beyonce's shyt was a dud.

She got it right with Crazy in Love but, that shyt just happened to feature the biggest rapper at the time :troll: then her next song had Sean Paul who just happened to be the hottest reggae act, then her album featured Big Boi, Luther Vandross, Missy Elliot & another Jay-Z track. Come on man :aicmon: They made sure Beyonce made it :russ:

Neither of them are/were great vocalists, so that's about even. Growing up as a 13-14yo, dudes were effing with the Age Ain't Nothin but a Number album...Dudes also effed with One in a Million too.

I don't think too many dudes like any of Beyonce's music. It's too hollow

W-w-wait...why are niccas sayin' Aaliyah couldn't dance and wasn't a good performer?? Did y'all see her do either?

Aaliyah was prolly the last artist that had bytches trying to learn the choreography from their videos the next day on the front lawn. lol

...at least until "Single Ladies".

Why are people saying Beyonce is a better dancer? Could it be that choreography has evolved since the time Aaliyah died? I don't recall Beyonce doing anything groundbreaking on the dancing tip in 2001.

we say that aaliyah couldnt dance because she just couldnt.

its not about the choreography either.

it doesnt take a dance expert to watch videos like "try again" & "are you that somebody" to realize that aaliyah had trouble keeping up with her own dance routine. borderline cringeworthy. shorty was way out of her element.

like aaliyah alot better but lets stop the bull

Aaliyah & Beyonce - YouTube

this is when beyonce was the baddest chick on the planet to me.

she still the chit now but shes lost some steps and not even the hottest chumpie from that group anymore(lady luckett). i dont care how much the media tries to convince me otherwise.

mosts artists started out and/or remained in groups whether they had what it took to be a solo artist or not. usually. unless they left on bad terms, the ones that left the groups were the ones that were by far the center-piece and/or figured that they had a HUGE solo career ahead of them. all this "who really wants to be in a group" stuff is 2000s microwave music talk. and keep in mind, 4 of the 6 members of destinys child(not counting the members before they got signed) have went on to have successful solo careers.

also, i dont think anybody expected a beyonce album to sound like "work it out".

:what:

if she has a "studio made azz", like you say, then drake and aaliyah have something in common...hence him sweating her dead ass so much.

she had hit and miss live performances... beyonce sounded like doo doo too a few times live. stop hating on aaliyah and her voice.
most of the crappy live performances aaliyah had was because she was working too hard and straining her voice.

I ain't even trying to read this thread, but im sure someone already stated it. Main difference is males can actually listen to & enjoy her music. A straight male would not bump Beyonce.
