Same when it comes to fitness. Weights is good for some, not for others as they do better with walking, swimming or something else.

You've really got to tailor it to your own frame but the most important thing is keeping the lymph moving as it hasn't got a pump, requires motion and is an essential component of health that many miss.

Buy yourself a skipping rope or do some handstands and watch your health come along in leaps and bounds as this aspect is wildly underrated.
I wholeheartedly disagree with "weights are good for some, not for others". You don't have to be a powerlifter, or have a 4 plate bench/squat, but weights are good for everyone. It improves posture, bone density, lowers inflammation. Cardio isn't going to sustain you as you age. Weights are.

Cool. I prefer calisthenics as its far more functional and offers greater benefits in the long run but like I said you've got to tailor to your type and own interests.

And this is coming from someone who was all about lifting for a long time until it clicked why it isn't the best option for reasons way to long to get into in this message that was bought to you by the amount of old lifters with knees and elbows in bandages whilst banging pain medication and rubbing funky creams over creaking limbs just to keep on getting it in.

I think both are important. But to be honest those dudes are ones that burned the candle too brightly. The body has it's limits, and you can't just run it like a late 80's model Honda. That's why resting is important. De-loading is important. Reverse dieting, and increasing calories moderately from time to time., and of course different types of training like calisthenics, yoga, kettlebells, etc.

100%. I was one of them dudes that would slam 3 scoops of preworkout, have the tunes bumping and pimp stroll in the gym at 6AM on a Monday acting like it was 1AM in the club on Friday night.

:shaq:

To say I got it in was an understatement as I was addicted to the buzz of lifting and smashing limits. What made reality kick in was niggling little impingements and a decreased range of motion that was gradual but obvious due to muscle tightness as I was doing nothing but lifting.

Flipped the script because it was obvious where it was heading and am nowhere near the size I was back then but it all feels a lot more natural to my frame and current way of living. That and back when there wasn't all that much in terms of info accessible nor things like classes for stretching, yoga, etc unless you went looking for it as I always trained in those proper ghetto gyms filled with felons, old ass dumbells and the spirit of competition. Great motivation.

Ultimately it comes down to knowing yourself and how you do and my nature is quite competitive in that sense as I enjoy self betterment and always want to progress. With lifting that can be a dangerous mindset as you mentioned as there is but so much the body can handle when your spirit is itching to get it in.

I will say that as a jit its essential to max out your hormone levels and potential as I'm certain that doing that then helped me get to where I'm at so its all about balance and options. Word to Quik.

I feel you. I've had to take the volume down quite a bit. Gone are the days of wasting half a damn day in the gym. I'm in and out in an hour (cardio included) and keep it pushin. It's incredible how many young dudes out here looking sad and gangly when they could be in the gym taking advantage of natures HGH. I've been fortunate enough not to injure myself THAT much. Have had a couple injuries from trying to squat a bus, but other than that I'm cool. I did buy a total gym so I'm going to try and incorporate more Pilates type work into my routine for sure. These days I'm all about

F. Function
C. Comfort
E. Efficiency

I'm hearing you on FM. I know myself and know that even if I try and lift light I'll just end up pushing it to the limit again because of the whole muscle memory thing but since starting boxing and my other flex I find bodyweight far more efficient and sustainable for the long term but man, that buzz was something else.

Had you walking out of the gym feeling invincible till the DOMs kicked in before you get up and do it all again. I fully vibe with this:

As you've got to know what its like to be the optimal expression of your genetics at some point in your adventure in the flesh otherwise can you truly say you're living? On the flip its wise to counterbalance and if I were coming up now with all of these options and info at a click I'd probably have chose different as back then it was iron and sawdust on the floor with no air conditioning with a booming system to get it in.

You should be in the gym by 25. No excuses. Honestly by 21 if you are smart and think long term.

Resistance training and some form of cardio. If God didn't make it, don't eat it. Keep your alcohol and weed usage to a minimum. Get 7-8 hours of quality sleep. You will be 35 feeling like you're 25 if you stick with these basics.

35 is late. Your T levels are most likely in the dumps already, that's why all these dudes whine about being depressed and feeling tired by noon. A lot of modern day dudes drink too much, eat too shytty and don't sleep well.

Turnng 35 in may. I'm not big on lifting. Never really was. I wish I did more lifting younger. Probably would have been better in basketball. But I've always been a cardio guy. I still am big on cardio.

I go to gym and run Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Depending on the weather I'll go outside and run. Saturdays I play basketball. I'm more focused on staying lean
Lifting weights alone won’t make you bulk up. You would still be lean if you’re not consuming a lot of calories and your caloric intake is less than what you burn.
