You either have to do it in the most recent season or both of the two seasons prior to getting the supermax extension. That goes for All NBA and DPOY. It's how Tatum missed out on it eventhough he made All NBA Team the years before.

For MPJ to get it, he would have to make DPOY, MVP, or 1st Team All NBA I believe just like Bam had to do. All-Defensive Team doesn't count surprisingly.
It doesn’t have to be first. It’s any one of the three.

I know that. He has the talent to be a 1st option. But playing with Jokic and Murray means he’s a 2nd option at best, most likely 3rd.

He’s not a diverse player at all. He’s an elite scorer and that’s it. No passing, playmaking, or defense.
So you're making a knock on him that isn't really a knock? That the Nuggets are paying a 23 year old for the luxury of being a 3rd option with 1st option talent?

That only applies if you've already made All NBA Team previously, which Tatum had already done in 2020. That's why he only had to make any of the All NBA Teams, while Bam had to make 1st Team to get it.

I thought Bam could get it with 3rd team last season as well when they were talking about putting Embiid and Jokic on First Team opening up a spot at Center until I double-checked and he wouldn't have gotten it anyways even if he made the team. I'm interpreting it because he had never make the team previously which increased the criteria needed for him to get it.

And the Suns picked him apart in the playoffs. They were literally looking for him to get easy baskets.

Ehhhh I'm willing to cut a bit of slack seeing as he missed two years of basketball in college and his rookie contract. The potential is there, which is what they're banking on. I think they win the championship if he pans out.

Exactly. I don't understand this contract at all. Woulda let him walk to restricted free agency and see what kinda offers he got.

Offensively, he carries himself and plays like he's the first option ahead of Jokic and Murray.

Someone was going to max him out, so they were going to have to match the offer anyways. He's the key to their championship aspirations even more than Murray and Gordon, so they had to do what it took to keep him.

Between Murray, Jokic upcoming supermax, and Porter max, Denver looking at onver 400 mil and might never get out the 2nd round :francis:

Then let him walk and handicap another team's cap situation. Too many teams bend over for non-franchise players then wind up in purgatory without options to improve the team. My thinking is always, if a team signs a player for X amount of money, how easily would they be able to trade that contract if something came up?

If Curry, Giannis, Luka, Embiid, KD type players become available, every team would bend over backwards to acquire them.

If Gobert, Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons (which we're seeing play out), John Wall, Bam, Porzingis, Harrison Barnes, Wiggins, Love, Siakam level players are on the block, who is trading for them and what is the quality coming back? You're probably just exchanging bad contracts in those scenarios.

You act as if small market teams have shot at those type of players in free agency or trade :mjlol:

Great. The league knows how good he can be if he stays healthy. That was his only question mark coming out. Happy for the kid

Giannis averaged 17 in his 3rd year. Your dumb ass probably wouldn’t have maxed him either

6-10. 23 who averaged 19-7 on 54/45 splits in basically his sophomore season? Yeah lock that down. Especially with his personality, you know he’s gonna stay in Denver for the long haul. This is a good gamble. Enough writing on the wall for the team to expect him to become a high level allstar in the next 2-3 years
