nikka nobody payed attention to them shyts like that im talking bout the shyt that got people paying attention and started a movement. Never said Spitta was the first. I said he got it hot. Other than that I could give u P with Alchemist Return Of The Mac series. No, DJ Muggs is actually the one that restarted the training in 2005 with GZA, then a collabo with Planet Asia, then Il Bill.
You are right. Great albumNo, DJ Muggs with GZA “Grandmasters” in 2005:
#8 on Apple Music would have to mean streaming right? That’s phenomenalAlbum is number 1 on the Hip Hop/Rap Charts on iTunes. Number 2 overall behind Taylor Swift.
Number 4 on Apple Music Hip Hop/Rap Charts. Number 8 overall.
Someone else mentioned Madvillainy which was before that. No, DJ Muggs with GZA “Grandmasters” in 2005:
That's probably the most prominent one when I think of the first 1 artist/producer albumsSomeone else mentioned Madvillainy which was before that.
Yep Prodigy was definitely up on it - the only reason I wouldn’t say it was a trend is because it didn’t really catch on….Alchemist was basically an in-house producer for Mobb at the time so it wasn’t out of the realms of possibility that Alchemist would produce an album for him - it’s like Pharrell producing HHNF….If I’m not mistaken, P and Alchemist started the trend in 07 with ROTM like you said. Unless there is something I’m forgetting.
Spitta basically made it cool to do again tbh. He had Monsta Beatz for TANM. Then got Ski for the Pilot Talk series. Then really set it off with Alchemist for Covert Coup.
One producer LPs never went away or came back, personally I don't see it as a trend. In reality it's just what you're paying attention to.
Other than that the Muggs albums definitely did make noise (and were dope), The Blu & Exile LP was big in the underground as was Madvillainy
Forgot ALC had mixtapes with Fashawn around 09….i can’t find that Fashawn Mixtape anywhereClassic album but I wouldn't count Blu & Exile since technically they're a group like Gangstarr or Pete Rock & CL Smooth. But I agree that Madvillainy counts and was the album that really set things off in 2005. Then a year later DOOM did the album with Danger Mouse. Covert Coup (2011) is an undeniable classic and is probably the first seminal rapper/producer example during the blog era. And you know I gotta mention the Danny Brown/Black Milk album that came out a few months later that same year.
In general I'd give the credit to Madlib. After Madvillainy he also did noteworthy full projects with Talib Kweli, Percee P, Guilty Simpson, and Strong Arm Steady before 2011.
