Claiming that all africans participated in the slave trade is misguided. If such a statement is made then we must look at all the dynamics taking place in africa at the time to be more fair. We have africans who fought against slave trade and risked their lives and their descendants are still here, what about them?, we have africans who got sold off to slavery who were participating in the slave trade themselves e.g certain princes from tribes that participated the slave trade whose descendants, as a result, are no longer in the continent. The blanket statements that 'Africans sold Africans' from the diaspora and 'African Americans are (insert racist negative stereotype)' from an African both show ignorance from both sides and sadly illustrates that people like malcolm x, marcus, fela and sankara, long after their deaths are still ahead of their time.

I don't agree with her at all but she made the EXACT SAME ARGUMENT I shared this morning about the term "DOS/Descendant of Slavery". The adjective you define yourself as defines who you are.

Now that you ask... I never stopped to think about it before, but I don't think I've ever referred to myself as a "nikka" . It's definitely been in my language though, and it still slips out especially when I'm drunk or caught up by the conversation, but I'm trying to remove it.
