This is 20-30 years too late for me. I no longer care even though I should.

This cover was 19 years ago.

I'm 39 years old now and nothing they make is going to be the soundtrack for my life now........the way something would be if it came out 20-30 years ago.
I understand all of this, but I still think it's gonna be a dope project.

I'll answer this for myself.. I try to demo a variety of mics that I buy by and having them spit live in the middle of the city or the park. The videos you see with the guy driving around in a convertible having guys like Erick Sermon spitting lyrics, I've been doing that. Do you know 99% of these young garbage azz rappers can't spit over a simple fukking breakbeat????? ONE VERSE OVER A fukkING BREAKBEAT!! They simply can't do it. Sometimes you get the usual, "hey, I got a beat on my phone, can I use that...". And I would pay these fukkers if they can just complete a verse of their own shyt, but i just tell them, "nah it's ok". So this isn't 20-30 years ago when cities were flooding with talent trying to get on. This shyt is crazy out here today... Mfers are talentless and following other talentless rappers.
I have a lisp and i can spit over a breakbeat (an anxiety towards rapping at that)

where ist his at?

New York State of Mind Part 3 gotta be CRAZY great for Nas to approve. He’s said he only does sequel songs if he feels that it outperforms the original and Part 2 is genuinely one of his greatest lyrical displays ever.

He already did that already

I just need Preemo to use hi hats on a few songs and I'm good. I know he's trying to make a point, but I need the structure. I wish he'd link up with Eddie Sancho again, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen.

I recently ran into this song by accident, and it's one of my fav new Premier beats:

I'm glad someone else has noticed the lack hi-hats on Premier's recent beats these last few years. Beats lack swing.

To be fair hi-hats have been out in the neo-boom bap scene for a long time. Every now and then Alc and some of these guys do use them, but they’ve been out for a while. One of the big signature elements of boom bap the last ten years is no hi-hats or minimal ones.

In premier’s case specifically I think the lack of hi-hats does hurt him more because with his chop heavy style and all the empty space he frequently leaves in the beats, it really does feel like a big piece is missing

Nothing like Christmas Time with Esco. DECEMBER NaS IS BACK:

STILLmatic 01'
God's Son 02'
Hip Hop Is Dead 06'
Magic 21'
NaS/Premo 25'

:salute:

I remember being in high school and "can't forget about you" dropped with just a Christmas vibe.

Honestly, that was one of my personal favorite eras of nas even though the music objectively wasn't anywhere as good as kd era or stillmatic/gods son just because of where I was in life and the excitement.

I'll never forget how hype "the honeymoon is over" freestyle was for that potential NASDAQ down jones album
