I'd say on par.
That's not at all true because, what defines universal classics? What is the criteria? If we go by not just the people around us, but the general consensus than all those Native Tongues albums are classics. Both had the same or more critical acclaim than Liquid Swords and Supreme Clientele. What you're saying is the equivalent of someone saying that Don Mattingly is a Hall of Famer. Just because an album was dope doesn't mean it's a classic. Neither Black Sheep's album or Jungle Brother's album is a universal classic. Saying they are is fuel to these new age hip hoppers claiming that 90's heads think every 90's album is a classic. Neither of those albums had the impact that critical acclaim than Supreme Clientele or Liquid Swords.
Tribe first 3 albums are all classic. There's really no legit argument against it
I don't think that's right. Didn't it drop in 88?Jungle Brothers debut album got 5 mics in the Source, majority of the albums we're discussing did not. If anything it's one of the more universally excepted classics of the ones we're discussing.

Liquid Swords & Supreme Clientele...."arguably"They're not all classics. Enter the Wu Tang and Cuban Linx for sure. Liquid Swords, SC, and Iron Man are arguably. Maybe Forever is arguable but that's a stretch. Nothing else on that list is a classic.

fukked up a good thread![]()
Ok, you're wildin. General consensus considers all those Native albums classic? I don't see it. Enlighten me. Tell me the impact of Black Sheep and Jungle Brothers albums.
Really did though because Native Tongues have a very good argument for a discussion like thisThread lost credibility when he posted that fvck sh!t.
Here's a picture of the list and every album typed out.again if we're going by general consensus not personal feelings right, let's use the Source (pre-fukkery) as our template. They gave 4 albums from the Native Tongues 5 mics They gave 2 to the Wu and 3 to Death Row.
In their best 100 albums of all-time list, they have 8 Native Tongues albums, 3 Wu Tang Albums, 2 Death Row Albums. Now this list was made in January 1998, so let's add Supreme Clientele and Forever to the list, still falls short to what people would consider "universal" classics.
Here's the list:
Rocklist.net...The Source 100 Best Rap Albums & Singles..
Edit: Starting with post #300 - @DANJ! breaks down ratings given to various artists from all over the map, all different types of hip-hop. It looks like the Source didn't have an anti-West Coast bias, or a pro "real hip hop" bias.
This list was published in January of 1998. To me, this was the perfect time to list the top 100 albums of all time, as Hip-Hop had just gone off the cliff and not much classic material has been made since then.
What would you have included?
What would you remove?
No All Eyez on Me? No Makaveli?
No E.1999?
Edit: Makaveli is actually on the list! The website I cut and pasted the list from was wrong.
What are albums post 1997 that merit inclusion?
