Can any of these new nikkas pull a Curry?

Nobody outside of Oakland was checking for him or GS. And then in 2016 out of nowhere takes over the NBA and the league has no choice but to push him

Steph’s rise was crazy. I remember him barley getting anyone at an under armor meet and greet during All Star weekend to him shutting down an entire mall a year later :whoo:

THIS IS WHAT I SAID
IN THE HALIBURTON THREAD...

THE NBA IS ABOUT TO
BECOME SUPERSTAR-LESS
JUST LIKE THE MLB/NHL
GOING FORWARD.

GREAT PLAYERS WITHIN THAT CIRCLE
BUT NO TRANSCENDENCE OUTSIDE
OF THE LEAGUE

The MLB and NHL actually have superstars. Ohtani makes a killing in endorsements and has a entire country who dikk rides him. :dead:

While Connor McDavid is regarded as the best since Gretsky, and even casuals like me tune in to watch him.

Silver inherited LeBron, and lucked into Curry, who became a superstar at the early stages of his tenure as commissioner.

He doesn't know how to market/promote the game.

The fact that he used the fukking Packers and Steelers, probably the two most storied franchises in NFL history, to make his argument about small markets being celebrated, shows that he is out of touch. He's awful.

Using the Steelers & Packers as examples wasn’t the best idea given their history but his general point was accurate

Most people watching the SB regardless of who’s playing, it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t involve a legacy franchise or player

The Super Bowl is basically a national holiday (and a 1-game affair).

The NBA Finals will never be able to compete with that.

They’ll never bring these days back and I won’t act like it’s possible, but man if NBC can bring something close to this back

They might end up running this shyt for good lol. Hopefully NBC will get all star weekend as well

NBC will have the rights to air the NBA All-Star Game/Weekend and some conference finals (in even-numbered years). No NBA Finals though.

Also, NBC plans to broadcast player intros before tip-off next season.

Right but that’s the point. People are going to watch the SB off GP, it doesn’t matter if it’s Cowboys vs. Chiefs or Vikings vs. Titans.

I don’t think Silver believes the Finals can draw SB numbers, there’s probably a better chance of the moon crashing into Earth. The hope is for people to want to watch the Finals bc it’s the best teams in the playoffs facing off, not essentially going “Who all gonna be there” when somebody asks if they’re watching the Finals

Yeah, but that's going to be harder to do. The NBA's popularity is driven more by individual star players than teams.

The Bucs/suns ratings were trash. All the 2000/s spurs finals had low ratings too and those were some of the best fundamentally sound teams. Silver cannot control the average fans giving a fukk about small market teams, there's no amount of presentation and court design that will change that.

They have to get people invested in the regular season again and transition the NBA away from individuals and back towards teams, division rivalries, and conferences.
Nah the ratings bad because u got the fukking pacers vs thunder in the finals.

But the lakers gonna fix that next season.:steviej:

the NBA is the only league where they have teams that fans feel are bad for business.

And yet we want 2 more teams in a talent pool that isn't deep.

The whole reason we talk about ratings is cause they are an indication of how well basketball is doing from a business perspective. True basketball fans give no fukks about the tv rating. Its just a curiosity to see how the business side does. Your owner and executives might care. But they have to adapt or die to a changing world where most people's attention is on social media. I'm someone that has cut cable and is streaming illegally on IPTV. Theres millions of people like me that dont get counted. NBA is still making money off me by marketing their product, so is the TV station through their commercials and branding. Only the service provider isn't making any money off me. A viral TikTok or Instagram NBA video counts for way more than people watching the game on TV nowadays.
