It wasn’t that long ago who couldn’t wait to kiss WB exec ass :mjlol:

Zaslav comments created an enemy for life with Silver…sure business is business and the NBA went with the more certain options but Zaslav did everything wrong since taking over.

The timing of the WB-Discovery merger was such a bad one.

If that merger happens 24 months later, Warner definitely re-ups with the NBA in some form. The people who were there pre-2022 had a great relationship with Silver.

I think Silver was on TNT only a couple times this season. In previous years, he would show up on the network a bit more.

That’s why I don’t think either MLB or NHL
stick around when their deals are up in 2028. I can’t see Manfred or Bettman trusting or liking Zaslav with how he handled the NBA media negotiation. Now with this split off company in an declining cable world, I don’t see a strong long-term future for them.

With NHL, I can see them going back to Fox as the latter been wanting them to come back for quite some time now. MLB however, seeing as their contract with ESPN ends this season it'll put them in a bind if they leave Turner Sports as well, unless they get Amazon, CBS and/or NBC interested by then.

'28 is three years away, Zaslav doesn't have three years. They've already cut his salary and bonus over more than half, cutting him is next. There'll be a new era in there by the time talks start. Doesn't mean it'll go any better, the entire network's underwater, but somebody else's getting a crack at it

MLB's dabbling with Apple TV, I 100% can see Apple purchasing rights for a larger package

WBD collapsing sets up a boon for Netflix if they want it. They've got RAW testing live coverage to mixed results so far, if they invest more I can see them breaking through and finally training folks to stick around instead of bingeing here and there. F1's coming and smaller leagues like NHL/MLB are perfect along with WWE to show the NFL they have the support to handle a large number of games over the season. Plenty of time to build up numbers before next rights fees

Apple is legit a dark horse. I can see themselves getting either the A package (ESPN) or the B package (TBS) if any company beats them on getting the A package.

Zaslav won’t be running the new spinoff company of the cable networks, their CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels will be. Zaslav will be running the company that has HBO/streaming service/studios. So, who knows what his strategy will be. But I don’t see how any sports league or college conference will want to get in bed with them.

Manfred has been openly bashing cable as a viable business when ESPN decided to opt out of their deal. Clear, that they aren’t gonna be returning to TBS after 2028 unless something major happens there.
