MTA unveils subway car of the future
mta%20gangway%201.png

“We’re using this project as an opportunity to just test that technology and see if it works for New York,” NYC Transit’s acting subways chief Wynton Habersham said during an MTA board meeting.

The open style of the train car could raise passenger capacity by 10%, according to transit experts.

The trains will be built as part of the MTA’s $2.7 billion purchase of new 940 R-211 model train cars to replace 40-year-old clunkers on A and F lines.

The purchase is included in the agency’s $29 billion capital plan still pending in Albany.

:aicmon::beli::mindblown:

Andrew Albert, an MTA board member, asked agency officials about some of the unintended consequences of an open train car design.

“It’s great benefit to salespersons, performers and others,” he said, “but I’m just wondering what you think it is for riders.”

They got wifi and charging stations:manny: but this don't seem like a fair trade off.

What other city has the ridership to justify such an extensive system. if you look at the revenue they collect. they should be doing much better. large areas of the city are under served.

there is an entire borough with no rail connection to the rest of the city and the lines we have simply can not efficiently accommodate the morning and evening rush.

other cities have parking and 8 lane highways, we don't. MTA is joke breh. this system is beyond capacity and many times you'll have to let 2 or more PACKED trains pass you to find one to squeeze into
That goes both ways, other cities' transit systems likely have less riders because the system isn't extensive like New York's. Also it would cost billions of dollars just to make little stretches of a new subway line, even if the MTA was better with their money, it would still be unfeasible to create some sort of massive upgrade.

The 24/7 running is kind of a disadvantage. It makes repairs take much longer and harder for consistent station maintenance. Outta any major city in the world, we do pay the least as far as fare when you compare how far that one fare can take you.
I think the 24/7 thing is great overall for the city, New York would not be the same without it. Imagine living in Brooklyn or the Bronx and having to spend $30+ on a cab every time you come home late at night from Manhattan.

But yeah I still think it's cool that you can pay $2.75 and go from Dyckman Street to Far Rockaway on one ride. shyt, it's even possible to go from Long Island to the Bronx on one fare.
I do that trip everyday fam!:wow:
It must suck when it runs local

G train is the worst though...shyt is never reliable.

On the other hand, when I was in Seoul..............whew......
that shyt comes in every 2min on time, free wifi, lcd screens everywhere, 7/11's and malls in the station, tracks are fully screened so no suicide jumpers, and no need to buy tickets you can just tag your wallet and go straight in.

I still think NYC trains are the goat but Japanese system is hot, you can use the train cards for purchases in stores, shts was on time, clean. Feminists would love it cause they had female only cars. Only downside was sum stations diddnt have free transfers

Man come to Toronto, now that's one fukked up transit system. We got 3 lines and they all suck. I live downtown and takes me an hour to get to work which is downtown. Everywhere overcrowded and we got a fraction of NYC's population.

We still using this: BTW, NO A/C and small windows that barely open.

This why I don't like opening at my store, fukking trains be busting with people as soon as the doors open. You wait and the next train be the same shyt.

The shyt that be blowing mine though is when they wait at stations talking about train traffic ahead meanwhile you was waiting a min for the train you on so how the fukk is there train traffic ahead?:mindblown:
