NY and NJ heads, what's it like to live around/deal with "Italians"?

as an old head

Italians back in a day was a major problem - we basically hated each other
fortunately by the late 80’s a culture; a movement; a lifestyle started to blow-up called hip-hop and ever since then they became our 2nd cousins

Growing up in The Bronx and Harlem I hardly ever saw them :yeshrug:

I just saw some shyt saying The Bronx is 45% white

That is a bold face fukkin lie :stopitslime:

I doubt even 10% of the BX is white

The few white areas aren't densely populated like the Black and Latino ones

da Bronx is the borough with the least amount of white people
but it’s crazy for you to grew up here and hardly came across any Italians.... did you ever swing by Arthur Avenue section or Pelham Parkway ?

Thanks for the input. I guess shows like Law & Order and some of those movies portray them correctly. I always wondered . I always assumed some would be racist.

@AuntAnniesPretzels as far as bringing folk home that's a different case. That's the "conservative" part of things.

For example, Me being haitian, my mother would prefer that i date haitian women. When i was in my late teens and i'd bring either an African American or other black Caribbean chicks around she'd always be nice but i could tell she wasnt a fan. Hell she wasnt too fond of even the "americanized" haitian chicks either. But over time she got over it to the point she was quite fond of this African-American chick from Virginia i was dating back when i first moved to ATL.

By the way in no way does what I said above mean that i dont believe some are racist. Just saying sometimes gotta distinguish conservatism and racism

Nope. Italians wouldn’t trip over other white ethnicities nor would they trip as much over white adjacent ethnicities

Cool over here. The Guido culture was at its peak from like 2002-2010. Now their just like regular white people for the most part but still Spicey.

Can't speak on anybody else's experience but Italians and blacks are cool together over here :manny:
Italian girls made Catholic school so much better :wow: :noah:

Maybe its just me but I've noticed a big difference between Italian Americans who have been here for decades and Italians straight from Italy. Italian Americans who have been in America for decades (and their children) are generally extremely racist, jealous, appropriators. Italian Americans straight from Italy are more friendly and appear to be less racist.

Honestly speaking, at least in NJ, most of the Italian people have moved out of Newark and the surrounding areas. They live more so in West Orange and Morris and Bergen Counties, they generally stay to themselves. But generally speaking, I haven't had any real issues with them personally. The older 50+ Italians can be a little racist at times, but younger that that they are like any other group, some cool ones and some not so cool.

Most non blacks who don’t want their people marrying blacks, it has nothing to do with preserving anything. It’s just anti blackness. Never heard of any Italians disowning their grandchildren for being half Irish

Do you remember the episode on sopranos where Meadow (Tony sopranos daughter )brought a black dude home as the boyfriend. Tony went crazy. Threw racist stereotypes on the dude until the guy had to break it up with the daughter

And dude was biracial too....can't even imagine what would have happened if she brought some dark chocolate home :russ:
