The constant disenchantment Americans have with the regular season is what causes this shyt. These leagues wanna keep expanding their playoff structures because we wanna fast forward through this shyt just to get to the good part, but let them remove games, fans will cry about not having content on TV.

These leagues can't keep trying to force these playoff moments when they're at their best when it's organic. Happened in baseball (and it may continue to where we get 14 teams in), happened in basketball, happened in football and hockey and soccer will fukk around and follow suit. It's ruining sports.

I like it. Keeps more teams alive later into the season while making getting a first week bye even more difficult and special.
Keeping teams alive is the biggest con that fans keep falling for. Of course teams are gonna be alive. You have to be Jets level garbage to not be alive. Two weeks ago the whole AFC was in it except for 3 teams. That sounds awesome in practice, but if you're in that in the hunt that late, you're probably not gonna do shyt in the playoffs. It's just that people don't like watching shyt when they think it's a waste of time. It's false hope.

You got teams giving it all they got for a play-in spot that doesn't even count as a playoff spot in the NBA with the goal being the opportunity to get Westside Gunn ad-libbed by the top seed.

Playoffs are special because if you got in you earned that shyt. Otherwise, a league is begging me to not give a fukk about their regular season product.

In football it makes more sense where you see underdog teams make runs. With it being single elimination those teams in the hunt have a chance. Yes some years there will be bullshyt teams slipping in, same is true when each conference only had six teams too. It happens. But there will be at some point a 7 seed that does make a run. If people have a problem with the extra game just don't watch the shyt. But it's crazy to act like no 7 seed will ever have a shot.

In the NBA I agree that 10 teams in each conference making it is too much but it did improve the quality of play towards the end of the season and add a lot of urgency for teams to try and grab the 6 seed to avoid being in the playoff games. Just cause YOU don't care about slipping in to the playoffs there are a lot of fans with delusional hope about their teams making the playoffs and having a chance and love the increased chance of making the playoffs even if it means getting destroyed. Hell you used to be a big proponent of teams getting playoff experience even if it meant losing just to get them that big game experience and teach them what it takes to reach the next level.

I am still a huge proponent of this, but it cheapens it when everyone can get in (and it's not gonna stop here; they'll look to add more spots). Part of the appeal of the playoffs is relative exclusivity of it. That's going away because these leagues are figuring out that people lack the will in their heads to follow a team through a season but don't wanna get rid of the $$ that comes with those games.

Some variation of this thread is made after every week. Fans have leaned to far into believing sports are "entertainment". It can be entertaining but it's a competition first.
