Here's a real world example. My brehs and I wanna watch the Don soon so we started looking at tickets. Next thing you know we talking about making sure it's not a back to back, or seeing if it's Nationality Televised to better the chances of everyone playing. That's some sad sad shyt when you're paying ~300$ for a ticket

And that’s what I’m saying, the NBA itself is very complicit in how the game has gotten softer and less physical, and I think framing it as a player issue without acknowledging that is disingenuous

The NHL is not legislating physicality out of the game, they encourage it
Guys can’t even stare at each other
Or back to back trash talking

Forgot about the fighting

What's funny is that the narrative of the early 00s NBA was that players were... take a guess... lazy, overpaid and ungrateful, ("i gotta family to feed" - Sprewell), lacked fundamentals (just a buncha And-1 dribbling but couldn't shoot); not pure and passionate like college ball... in addition to the other stuff like "image problems" and having a bunch of "thugs" in need of a dress code.

Fast forward 20+ years later... now players dress "fashionable", all can "shoot", the secret service rushes the court if a semblance of an altercation breaks out, and if anything players over train trying to perfect their fundamentals/skills...

...and us "fans" are still miserable

But yea that's why there's always a racial element to the criticisms compared to a product like the NHL. Then there's also simple back-in-the-day syndrome, where Luka will be critized for being fat, lazy, and only about the money... but then Shaq will be brought up as the paragon of basketball virtue and fitness.

And I understand that frustration 100%, I’ve bought tickets to a game before just to find out when I got there that one of the teams was sitting their 3 best players :francis:

PK’s take also doesn’t mention the Windhorst in the room which is the racial aspect of NHL players fighting compared to NBA players. The NBA has been fighting an image “issue” since the 70s in the US and we know why. If you’re old enough to remember the Malice, then you remember the national outrage. Fighting and enforcers were taken out the game cause they were seen as making the NBA the “thug league”.

NHL players can fight all the time cause it’s a primary white league that doesn’t hold the cache within US culture like the NBA, so it can skate by with little to no issue.

Windhorst in the room :dead:

NHL definitely in the last 10 years most definitely has legislated physicality out of the game, fighting is all but gone and you cant hit above the neck anymore even by accident....theyve taken out almost all hitting thats not against the boards..

NHL did the same thing the NFL did because they were afraid about CTE lawsuits from ex players....

Dudes on here praise David Stern for a lot of things but conveniently forget after the Malice incident he vowed to never let anything get even close to something like that ever again. And like you said if fighting ever got to that level in the NBA again there would be national outcry and "What are we gonna tell the children?!!!" type outrage from white people.
Also that was juxtaposed with the ‘thug’ label the players got from viewers and the low ratings.

Seems to me he solved his own problem.

He just said he hasn't watched the NBA since Kobe.
Good.

All you guys who hate the product, watch something else.
Viewership will decline. That means advertising dollars will decline. That means the league will notice and be affected. That means changes will be implemented.

What impetus is there for change if you're all still watching and showing up to the arena and buying jerseys and hats?
There isn't one.

Quit your childish crying, you bunch of babies.
:patrice:I don’t know breh you sounding kind of MAGAish with your response. And I fukks with your post ever since you went by Raul.

It do sound like, that ole if you don’t like it here, then go back to your own country shyt.

I think there are certain players that we know will play and put on a show, while other players are just happy to be there. It gives some credence to the Shaq vs Kenny/Chuck argument where Shaq feels the best players with the numbers should be All Stars while the Kenny side wants to reward winning. Just an example is that Darius Garland was picked by coaches because of their record and we saw how he played. Trae Young and Kyrie were injury replacements, and they actually tried to put on a show.

I know they blame the leadership, but I can’t blame LeBron or KD because when they played, they competed. If I’m gonna blame one of the leaders, it would be Steph. His laying on the ground while Giannis dunked still stands out to me. Also he shoots a bunch of threes which makes these other players wanna do the same. This format was also his idea.

Camron has a good idea. Make it 2 all star games, east vs europe, west vs canada.. pride of not losing to europe/canada would make nikkas hoop.

The NBA has become a garbage product. For the first time, I did not even bother tuning in to all star weekend.
And seeing the highlight of CP3 and Wemby doing that sucker azz shyt solidified it all for me. TERRIBLE. Fux da NBA until further notice.
Hell I dont even bother watching the games anymore either.

i hate when people try to make sports into some act of patriotism. You not fighting for your country. You are playing a game.
You doing just as much for your country as little kids outside playing tag.
Exactly, so for you to be making 100mil+ dollars all of the people watching expect you to be playing tag with every ounce of energy you have,

it's bad for morale ultimately, seeing millionaires just make a joke of the shyt in front of your face when they're job is already a dream situation for most. I can't support that shyt especially when these nikkas never give back to anyone

Like Kevin Garnett said these new players are gonna get those guaranteed contracts taken away from them and they'll have no one to blame but themselves.

You can't keep giving people half a billion dollars and letting THEM dictate what days they wanna work with 0 consequences :dahell: these dudes never had jobs growing up, have zero concept of how disrespectful this shyt looks

The part that got the most attention from that NHL 4 Cups tournament were the players fighting in that USA/Canada game, that’s the hockey “passion” that’s being referred to by people in this discourse beyond what PK is saying

Exactly.

I haven't seen one goal highlight or anything from that lil tournament. The only thing that has happened was a bunch of fights broke out in the beginning of a game.

Who won that game? Who knows?
