Here's a real world example. My brehs and I wanna watch the Don soon so we started looking at tickets. Next thing you know we talking about making sure it's not a back to back, or seeing if it's Nationality Televised to better the chances of everyone playing. That's some sad sad shyt when you're paying ~300$ for a ticket

Facts. I’ve thought the same every time I’ve bought Laker tix the last 5-6 years. Never had to worry about that growing up.

Teams legislated pride away by going all-in on load management. They told their own players it's more important to stay healthy than to compete until the playoffs. That's why you get half assed effort in ASGs now.

When guys signed up for the Olympics there was a bunch of talk about not being able to rest for the summer instead of celebrating playing in the Olympics.

And as I've said before, the NHL has the same schedule as the NBA. Their top players are out there every night unless they're really injured. They do not do rest days and their guys still have long careers.

And that’s what I’m saying, the NBA itself is very complicit in how the game has gotten softer and less physical, and I think framing it as a player issue without acknowledging that is disingenuous

The NHL is not legislating physicality out of the game, they encourage it

PK’s take also doesn’t mention the Windhorst in the room which is the racial aspect of NHL players fighting compared to NBA players. The NBA has been fighting an image “issue” since the 70s in the US and we know why. If you’re old enough to remember the Malice, then you remember the national outrage. Fighting and enforcers were taken out the game cause they were seen as making the NBA the “thug league”.

NHL players can fight all the time cause it’s a primary white league that doesn’t hold the cache within US culture like the NBA, so it can skate by with little to no issue.

Dudes on here praise David Stern for a lot of things but conveniently forget after the Malice incident he vowed to never let anything get even close to something like that ever again. And like you said if fighting ever got to that level in the NBA again there would be national outcry and "What are we gonna tell the children?!!!" type outrage from white people.

THIS AINT ABOUT NO DAMN FIGHTING
ITS ABOUT SHOWING UP
AND ACTING LIKE YOU GIVE A DAMN.

You’re missing the fact that every game matters in the nhl regular season while they don’t in the nba.

Guy mentioned fighting several times, the only highlights shown were the fights from the start of that game.

Congrats to them for finally pulling out a high rating, even though people tuned in to see "USA vs Canada" and not "Red Wings vs Rangers" or "Blues vs Predators".

How does that math work
NHL has a point system so literally every game matters because you could have more losses than one team but still get points if those losses were in an overtime game therefore pushing you ahead. while the NBA has just wins and losses you get way more lead way with that especially because typically if a team reaches 44-48 wins they are making the playoffs so you get more room for error.
