I think Kane would have demolished Ra in a battle. KRS too. Rakim is a prototype of a sort, but his music never struck me as versatile. Matter fact, one way to illustrate it is by looking at Quik and Eiht's battle which Quik won hands down. I'm a bigger Eiht stan than a Quik stan, but the way Quik freely shytted on Eiht during Dollars & Sense put a spotlight on Eiht's limitations. Quik came off on that track like he was having a blast with it. It was fun to him. All of Eiht's shots at Quik though, were typical threatening sh1t. I couldn't imagine Eiht having fun and be freewilled on a diss towards anybody.

Same thing with Rakim. Kane would have a field day using humour, wit, swag, and style on Rakim. He'd ride whatever production was afforded him and have a joint full of quotables. I can't see Rakim doing the same thing. Rakim was great going at imaginary emcees like the Terminator, but if he were to do the same thing with an actual battle ready emcee like a Kane or KRS, he'd get roasted.

oh man.. Kane was the shyt

but KRS would have had some good ammo on him for turning Sexual Chocolate/Ladies man rapper.

i give it to rakim.

i just want to know the exact point where this stopped being a debate. oldheads debate this all the time. it seems like rakim became untouchable after the fact. and thats wierd because BDK appeals more to post-mid '90s rap fans than rakim does.

1) G Rap is the GOAT

2) Nah, BDK ain't better than Rakim. Lyrically, it's close. But career wise, not even close. Rakim had a much better career than BDK.

I'd take plenty of rappers of BDK.

And don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to diss BDK at all. He's a legend and one of the illest rhymers of all time and got 2 classics under his belt. But his prime was extremely short (87-89) and after that he fell off the map.

I mean, just look at all of BDK's peers; Rakim, G Rap, KRS-One, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Masta Ace, Slick Rick. All of them made quality and/or relevant music til at least 1995. Once 1990 hit, BDK fell completely off the radar.

when did rakim have a better career than BDK??

slick rick was hot for 1 album unless you count his stuff with doug fresh & them.

masta ace is not on the level.

Simple. Just look at his longevity album catalogue.

Rakim has 3 classic albums, and 4 really dope albums all spanning over 20 years.

Big Daddy Kane had 2 classics in a span of 2 years, then every other album afterwards was trash, plus he was ghost after 98.

Trash is too harsh. He made some very poor decisions with singles and beats, but he was still doing shyt like this:

i agree that rakim has a better catalog but that has nothing to do with having a more successful career.

and you say bdk was ghost after '98, but so was rakim. they were both kinda ghost long before that, if you want to be really-real.
