They suggested putting our pops in a nursing home after suffering a stroke. We said he'll no and got him an apartment instead. He absolutely loves his privacy, already knows most of the neighbors and health wise is improving.

We are suppose to take care of our parents, not abandon them for selfish reasons.

Op wants a fast death for his mother. NH will have patients laying in piss or poop for hours and don't give no fukks unless relatives are visiting. Patients getting uti's and pressure ulcers the size of cereal bowls get septic and die.

Me and my wife just signed the papers. :whew:
11 negs from people who've never been faced with that choice or let someone else deal with it. You probably shoudnt have signed off with the obama relief .gif .... but not every family can absorb the 24 hour care necessary to take care of mentally and physically failing elders.

Its not just the money. There is a physical emotìonal and mental strain on the caregivers as well. It is not enviable position to be in. Empathize with Don, dont knee-jerk hate.

Depends on the apartment. Is it assisted living? Private room but open den and kitchen to allow multiple residents to live together?

You dont put someone whos had a stroke in a n apartment by himself because theres no one to assist or monitor medication and emergencies. It will not be good if he has another stroke and no one finds out for days because he's by himself.

Cant pat yourself on the back for this one when youve basically dropped him off in the woods and waved goodbye. Elders like to make everything is ok and theyll be alright, but sometimes it isnt.

If its assisted living thats a little different and not really a regular apartment situation.
