Just because someone grunts and jerks their body with their singing doesn't mean its coming from the soul. No I did not feel that. I understand its an intangible thing ; hard to measure or quantify. I've always felt this way about her. I rated her a 9 so I'm very objective and unbiased. Just my opinion.

“grunts and jerks their body with their singing doesn't mean its coming from the soul.” - Yeah beyonce isn’t always an emotive singer and she thinks of singing in a musical way, like an instrumentalist, she’s all about the showmanship. I agree that the rate is is about accessing their actual vocal ability as singer moreso than our personal preferences..i.e- Frank Ocean or The Weeknd might have voice that show greater emotion than Beyonce but aside from that they’re not really good vocalists to even compare.

Yup

Think some of it has to do with her wanting to appeal to a wider audience as well...getting on pop radio

The diff between her studio recordings and live performances can be stark...

Vocally speaking she’s technically a 9.5/10.. her vocal technique is literally one of the best ever in the game. the woman can do practically anything in her voice ..versatile. This ain even on no stan shyt.. she could probably be a voice major and that added with her skill/musicianship and she’s a legit beast. I think her tone can be a bit richer and and she doesn’t have as much soul that I would want from my favorite female singers (Lala Hathaway, Kim Burrell, Lisa Fischer and Anita ..leontyne price too Brandy/Jazz) and this is what is going to hold her back from getting her dues, because that’s what the consumers care about.. her actual skill/ability closer to a 10 then anyone.. Ill go on record and say that Beyonce’s skill and technique is on the level of everyone except, aretha, nippy, ella and Raschelle

Agreed. The only flaw to her vocal ability is the lack of rawness/soul. Everything else is top notch. And it's nothing to be ashamed of either. Outside of Aretha and Whitney and maybe Jazmine Sullivan, there aren't too many others in modern r&b/soul music history who can say they have the total package. I hesitate with Jazmine Sullivan even. Aretha and Whitney are the only ones I can think of that had the complete total package as a singer; I mean absolute vocal perfection.

Put keke Wyatt in that same thought process you have jazmine Sullivan in.

the only thing is that Keke and Jazmine done have the refinement and acuity in their fundamentals and it holds them back from being versatile musically.. beyonce can turn off the grit and soul and deliver classical/opera-esque placements, then use her rhythmic flow to fire off rap verses while still in the melody, she’s solid throughout her range and this is where thru lack in a sense

:wow: Forgot about Keke breh. But I still wouldn't put her in the convo because she never had the mainstream success like the others. There are a lot of women outchea like Keke who can sing Bey under a rock but they don't have the platform to do so in a major way. So I'll only compare Bey to those who deserve the comparison.

Not sure about Keke but Jazmine is very versatile as vocalist. She just doesn't have the stage like Bey to showcase it. Pound for pound, Jazmine is just as good or even better than Beyonce as a vocalist real talk. Beyonce being a soprano and being able to sing higher is her only edge on Jaz. I heard Jazmine scat on the end of a jazz standard like 'Round Midnight that would put Bey in her place quick!

Terrible singer, she really benefits from production
:stopitslime:
I got her as "very good". You could POSSIBLY make an argument for elite. Whatever level she is on, the Whitneys, Gladys, Aretha, and Pattis are a level higher. Keke Wyatt is up there too, she just don't have many hits.

My Own 🌍
went with an 8

most of my points for Bey come from her longevity and her overall talent as a performer

her singing is very good but someone like Jill Scott is better with better albums
