Agreed. She wasn’t as consistent as Janet and Mary as far as musical output if we talk about the same time frame.

Mariah has good albums but only like two 4 star albums...Daydream and Butterfly. Shes iconic, no doubt. But her discography is slightly above average. She started doing better when she started doing hip hop but I still prefer her as a balladeer.

The production value . I hate when folks blame it on technology. Most of the 80's classics were made with synthesizers and the 808/Linn drum machine. It was made with folks that knew how to create music.

The album isn’t. I don’t think anyone talks about that album outside of the singles.

The closest Mariah has to a classic album is Butterfly and even that’s questionable.

Perfect mix of holiday cheer and some upbeat-ness.

Mariah gets a 9 from me. She is a monster vocalist but she never really showed me much versatility outside of her pop/r&b/ballads. She has the power and I've never heard a whistle register as beautiful as hers, word to Minnie Ripperton. She could never slay a jazz standard like Whitney on "I Loves You Porgie" (LIVE mind you). And I don't think she has the "Umph" or nitty gritty to go in on a gospel track like Aretha. But she checks every other box. She was really a better Beyonce in her prime back in the 90s. Just about every single from her peak albums were number 1 hits. Thats crazy.

She ran the 90's as the top solo female much like Beyonce does today. But Bey has no competition whereas Mariah was dominating the likes of a prime Brandy, Monica, ALL the female groups of the 90's.

I feel as though she shows off alot when its not needed. Cant rate her a ten for that. Whitney could do the same things but didnt show off.
