OP you should really dig deeper to find the best showings for these ladies’ voices. It’s not necessarily the first things that pop out to you.

the chameleon tone.. her use of her massive range allows her to explore so many diff colors and textures.. great at vowel manipulation.. she’s a vocal technician and strategist! she has a way to layering her vocals .. alot of unorthodox progressions and her fluidity jus weaving in and out the line is peerless. she’s a bit shy on stage in prime soI don’t really think she gave all she had when she was at her best. Still she’s a 9! (i had to take off point 5 cause her intonation was shaky live and she didn’t always have accuracy timing some of her crazy runs). still a god-tier vocalist. Not as soulful as I like for my favorites, but this is just objective traits..

Damn. I wanna give her a 10 but there are a very few who are very slight better. Mariah can't sing a song and bring a tear to my eye. I would give her a 9.8 if I could. Gotta go with a 9 even though I feel like I am under rating her.
8.9/9 is pretty accurate if this was a true vocal rate. it only seems low because Anita is rated so high..too high

I think a lot of voters were nostalgic when it comes to Anita because she was apart of the soundtrack to their young lives. She was played heavily throughout my childhood also. I think her getting a 8.9 is very accurate. Mariah is 9.9 in my book. There's a huge difference between 8 and 9 to me.
Anita is 7.5-7.8 at best..
she’s not better than Lisa Fischer or Jazmine or Leandria Johnson or Kim Burrell who range from 8-8.7 in vocal ability.
Aside from Anita’s smooth, velvety tone and romantic demeanor what can she do vocally that puts her on their level? be real? Hell tbh.. If you put prime anita baker on stage and told her to sing with any of these ladies hell even Beyonce she’s getting washed breh..im talking singing singing.

Im really baffled. What can/has Anita ever done with her voice that puts her on the pedestal most of u are placing her on. Anita wouldn’t even be able to sing these women’s songs you guys are saying she’s better than. help me understand breh

It's just a reminder of how music used to be. Her songs took time to build up. A lot of ballad type songs. I remember my sister's friend playing Mariah all of the time back in the day when we would be outside playing around.
Vocal ability is more than the science you're making it out to be. Yes the women you mentioned can flat out blow but when we're talking about Anita vs Mariah, I admit while Mariah is the better vocalist, I'd take Anita over her because once you break it down passed all the sciences of voice and technical abilities, your can just FEEL Anita more.
Her music can sway my emotions because she never made music for the ear ala Beyonce/Mariah. She made music for the art of it; for the love of it. Bey and Mariah are just looking for that next #1 hit and it shows. Lemonade may be Beyonces only attempt at an album of some actual substance.
Neither Mariah or Beyonce has a song that's is more complex and more heartfelt than Anitas Giving You The Best That I Got...Well Mariah is close on that One Sweet Day song but I digress.
I judge the intangibles as well as the skill. Anita just has more soul and meaning in her music and that's why she rated so highly.
