Because when both teams are good on defense and the other can't score for shyt it goes one way. That shyt wouldn't happen with a team like Detroit because they couldn't score. If they were anything beyond a fluke team that was lucky to run into a self destructing laker team then they would have repeated. If Kobe had simply not gone full retard then nobody would remember them as anything special. That team didn't even win 55 games and the dumbasses on here think they belong up there with the 2001 lakers or 2015 warriors or 2014 spurs or 2013 heat or any of the best teams of the last 25 years. Detroit didn't even win their division that year.
Why nikkas gotta be disrespectful. To say they wouldn't beat the warriors or that they aren't an all time great team, I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you. But to label them as a fluke just because they didn't repeat is preposterous, especially when they went to a game 7 in the finals the following year and were up until about 3 mins left on the road (shouldn't have even got to that point if Sheed didn't go full retard at the end of game 5). No need to make illogical statements to try and prove a point.

and I LIKED that pistons team

I gotta shyt on them because people saying shyt like Sheed and Rip would even be #2 options on a 8 seed these days...
Me too. I was a huge fan of sheed and Big Ben, but that offense was just :scust:

Even with them getting back there the following year, Miami went up 3-2 when Wade got hurt. They likely get closed out in game 6 with a healthy Wade. They were an anomaly. Every other championship team save for maybe the 2003 Spurs since the 2000 finals was a highly potent offense except them. Sheed going full retard and leaving Horry open is part of my point. They had a razor thin margin for error on defense because of how bad their offense was. Going into the fourth quarter of game 7 in Sam Antonio neither team had cracked 60 points. That's just not going to cut it against modern contenders who are both deep and stocked with plenty of shooters to space the floor and force the defense to stay at home unless they're willing to give up the open 3.

and GS has a great defense too

so like... wtf is detroit gonna do?
"Great" defense might be a stretch for Golden State.

They allowed 104.1 points per game last year. And yes they scored a lot, and yes there are other factors to consider defensively, but 104 is 104 no matter how you cut it.

The 03-04 Pistons allowed 84.3 a game.
Ultimately, I think the ability for GS to score in bunches is too much to overcome, but I still think the matchup would be interesting.

it does matter how you cut it

possessions per game have skyrocketed since 03-04 lol....

o/drtg, efficiency, etc - total allowed/scored ppg is a shyt way to measure offense and defense for a team in any era

The possessions per game would affect the offensive numbers also.
I'm not saying GS would lose. I agree with you that they win.

But you think it's laughable to match up the two.
I'm not so sure.

:ehh:

The 2015 team had a defensive rating of 101.4 which was best in basketball. They had one of 103.8 last year which was 5th in the league. Points per game is a terrible metric to use when they played at the fastest and second fastest pace in basketball the past two seasons. Detroit from 2003-04 through 2007-08 played at the 24th, 30th, 29th, 30th, and 30th pace.

I'm aware of this.
