As a fan living in Oklahoma, I'm all for this. Right now I consider this a short term win that can turn into a long term W... only if Presti can sucessfully rebuild the team. I personally still hold him in high regard and most fans don't blame him for the direction of the franchise post Harden/KD/Westbrook era(It was the owner that didn't want to pay Harden that set the events in motion). However, he will be on the clock on while undergoing this rebuilding project. Right now, he's doing everything correctly.

Trading Westbrook was smart and necessary because Russy is what he is, and outside of a soul-searching miracle, Westbrook isn't going to change his personality or his game. I won't say you can't win with a player like him, but it's very difficult. Plus, Donovan cannot control a player like Westbrook, so the best thing you can do is to ship him off! Even if, somehow, the Rockets win a championship with Harden and Westbrook, this trade was necessary.(Y'all gonna talk shyt forever tho).

Now, as to why Chris Paul? The answer is quite simple. He has one year less than Westbrook on his contract which won't matter if you're gonna be losing/not making the playoffs any time soon. I personally believe that Chris Paul has some value, but he will have to prove it next season. I think CP3 would be a good mentor to Schroeder or any of the incoming PG that OKC will draft in the near future, but I seriously doubt that he would want to do that for the next 2 seasons, then retire.... he wants a ring, so he's gonna try to play his way out of OKC to a contender before the trade deadline next season. If he cannot do that, then he truly is "washed" and needs to retire.... or just retire now and be done with it.

This trade for Houston, "could" work out, but I'm leaning towards it being a long term L... because of the reasons I stated about Westbrook's ego and game, in addition to the fact that D'antoni cannot make this union work neither. Harden and Westbrook aren't the young guns from OKC trying to make a name for themselves... Harden should have been more careful for what he asked for....

Hopefully, Sam Presti can rebuild OKC fairly quickly and not have OKC in perpetual rebuild mode like the Knicks.

He has 120 mil guaranteed to him for the next 3 seasons. I’m not even entertaining a buyout unless the starting number is 100mil if I’m CP.

If bought out at 100mil, he’ll probably sign a one yr/3-5 mil deal this season. And probably sign a 2/40 mil at the end of the season. He’ll end up making more than the original deal.

But if I’m OKC, there is no way I’m buying him out at 100mil, I don’t owe CP no loyalty, I’m trying to trade him or force him to take 60-80 mil on the buyout.
Nobody paying Chris Paul 2/40

Explain how the hell you gonna force him to take a $60-80 million buyout.

Do you think before you write?

Obviously not..

By not giving in to his demands, making him play in OKC, letting him be miserable, having leverage over him.

People said the same thing about Horford not getting 100mil this season.

If we gets a buyout, and is a free agent this upcoming season. His old a$$ just might be the best free agent with Dray, guaranteed some team will offer him 2/35-40mil.

There’s no incentive for okc to buy him out because there’s no way Chris Paul would give up the amount of money to make it worth their while.

Because whatever buyout he agrees to would still count against their cap for three years or even longer if they stretch it.

If he had one year left on his deal then it might be possible but a buyout of this magnitude for a deal that long has never been done.

Plus there will be some team, if not multiple teams interested in him regardless of the price... there are some deals with a team like Minnesota or Miami that could work.
I would imagine they would want him to give up everything but the min. That's like 117 mil. RIP to CP3

Unfortunately they’re so many forces against a buyout.

-CP3 being president of the players union can’t take a massive discount ( as players union leader it would send the wrong message).

-The thunder are notoriously cheap and buying out CP3 would put them in a cap hell for at least three years ( they can’t use more than 15 percent of their cap on a buyout so they would be financially strapped)

:russ: I was an OKC fan for years... but really just a Russ fan. Now I’m about that Rockets life. You just said a whole lot of nothing to convince yourself the Thunder aren’t about to be banished to sub 8th seed purgatory for the next decade. If Harden came to OKC instead of Russ leaving, your ass would be posting 2012 hi-lights in response to every nikka hating, just like you are right now.

They’ll likely play this season out and hope the larger cap plus a full season to evaluate needs in 2020 will yield a trade partner

At least, that’s what makes sense to me
