Seems like Millennials and Gen Z want to go into debt to take vacations instead of what their parents did

Go see the world:manny:

this is a dumb take if ur someone like me who has kids, and especially a kid in college. I can't afford to be frivolous like these folks on social media.

2.5 more years, I'm free, and then I can see the world on my own terms once the last one is grown :whew:

That’s cool it worked out for you but what people are rebelling against is the requirement to do what you did just to have a decent life.

There is no more single income, 3 bed 2 bath home, 2 kids, a stable job with a pension waiting on folks.

You asking a 21 year old crippled with debt to work 50 hours a week to live in an apartment that doesn’t leave them money to save for a home. And be happy about it. There are no more “starter homes” someone can buy to get established.

That shyt ain’t flying anymore.

Bruh it’s cheaper to fly your kids to France for a week than it is to drive them to Disney World. I know, I priced it.

It’s cheaper to fly to Rio than it is to see a concert in a major city in the US. So fukk it, let’s fly.

The young people doing well out here……….they got it inherited because grandma died. The ability to work your way up is going bye bye. It’s all about inheritance now. So people are saying fukk it, there isn’t much to work towards so I’m YOLO.
Let me tell you something

Your 21 yr old "crippled" with debt can buy a house and retire before 50 easily in today's economy

A 21 yr old should be in good shape. That means it's not necessary for him to buy a 40,000 car with payments for the next 5 yrs, 200 a month for insurance, along with gas and maintenance

Drop the fukking ego

Buy a thousand dollar mountain bike. Get it tuned up every 3 months for 50 bucks. Buy no flat tubes. Every single last dollar u had to spend on the car money trap, save+invest. Utilize Amazon, insta cart, Uber one, Lyft. It's not 1998 it's 2025 a car is not a necessity everything including groceries can be delivered. Rental cars can be had for 60 bucks a day for dates

Now in 5 years instead of a paid off used vehicle that makes u look poor or u gotta buy another one, u got $50,000 as a down payment. Now u not paying rent, u paying down a mortgage

Before the age of 40 the house is yours, simply cause u rode a bike instead of driving a car to work

U all are doing to yourselves, tryna impress and outdo each other instead of focusing on aquiring assets and removing yourself from the 9 to 5 hamster wheel. The money is there, the younger generation is absolutely horrible at allocating money properly, and even further, they brag about getting finessed. When the hell did sneakers start going for over 500 dollars? Thousand dollar jeans? They wanna play rich instead of actually being rich

How many people do u know with thousand dollar phones? 600 a month car payments? That's a waste of money. That's why they can't afford a house, they spent the house money on trinkets

Stop spending, stop being free walking billboards for rich companies and learn how to to grow your money

It's thats too hard then fukk it, go live in a van down by the side of the river

Anxiety attacks and sugar cookies

- Using buy now pay later apps
- Taking out loans to go on vacations
- Getting into debt to go to DisneyLand
- Already in debt, and going on vacation with a loan to forget about debt

Seems like the older generation was more about trying to save for retirement, waiting until their older in their late 50s and 60s, and then start traveling 5-6 times a year. This generation is f*ck it, I'm going on vacations multiple times a year in my 20s, debt be damned :dead: :dead: :dead:

On the kind of diets and work schedules most them people had their bodies broke down in their 50-60s and if they didn't have good family relations or raised kids that adored them they usually ended up having stank attitudes realizing they're trying to live like they're in their 20's but now they only have 10-20 years left to actually enjoy their life

You make great points on everything you said but

The economy is horrible and we've been having cyclical economic disasters for almost 100 years straight at this point, you do realize everything you says ignores the reality of the fact there will be more poverty and deaths from it in the future because our elders sold us out in office

To me it depends on how much debt you're going into. My first time leaving the country was when I was right around 30. I had a job making like 95K after OT pay in a really low cost of living city. I was close to paying off my college loans. I was working myself to a damn near panic attack and to the point I was carrying anxiety around with me 24/7.

A friend of mine was going to Cozumel. I joked about her not inviting me. She said come on. So I went like 2K into debt to, knowing I could pay it off within six months of going. Best damn decision I ever made. That was my first real 100% true vacation just for the purpose of a vacation. shyt changed my life. I was the first time since being an adult that felt relaxed and stress free. I was forced to not check work emails and no one could reach me for help so I was able to disconnect. I even joked with my friend how something feels off with me because I was so used to carrying stress around that not being stressed felt like something was wrong.

Changed me from being a total workaholic to realizing work isn't life. Work is the shyt you do to fund the life you want outside of work. As long as someone isn't taking on crippling debt to travel fukk it let them have it. For me my vacations act as a stress reset button that gives me the drive to handle the day to day without going crazy.

Because houses and things used to be affordable. Al Bundy supported his family and owned a house selling shoes. Younger generation see no hope or future. Not making excuses but it’s true. You could afford to support your family selling appliances at sears.
I'm 33 so I was a young child when Married With Children was on the air, but could you really buy a house working retail back then!? :russ:

Far as I know retail is barely above minimum wage :mjlol:

Al Bundy buying a house and raising a family solely off of selling shoes seemed like some fictional TV shyt :mjlol:

That kind of mindset is why a lot of people are struggling in their 40s and 50s and worrying about being able to retire when they get to retirement age instead of stacking, investing, etc in their 20s and 30s. I'm not saying not to enjoy life when your young, but the majority of people live into their 70s and beyond.

Point is cost of things and average salary were different. Houses cost half of what they are today. shyt we had $1 menu and more moms could be stay at home moms

Thank you

The economy? Remember the recession of 2008 and how it destroyed so many people? I don't. That's was the most profitable time period of my life up to that point, still don't really understand what the recession was about cause everything was great on my side, and Orlando was just on the verge of blowing up into the economic masterpiece it is today

20 yr olds need to turn off the news feeds and social media and get to the grind. From 2001-2005 I'm still to this day seeing music videos from that period for the first time, I don't really remember what a GameCube or a Dreamcast was in real time. 2003 I missed the entire NBA playoffs. I was busy, I didn't have time for news media

If u read some literature from the 50s/60s/70s the sky has been falling every year we've been alive. If u lose one job go get another. U got a smartphone, u can train yourself to learn anything. 20yr olds need to get off the Internet and start living in real life, that's they problem

I don't disagree with you on your last point. It's gonna be a lot of poverty and even early death on the horizon for people who can't get it together
