Californ-i-a by way of BK
Cam was near-superstar status from 2001-2004. He was never Drake-Wayne-Jay-Kanye-Pac levels of popularity but, he was that dude. Kinda like Ross but, more popular. Everybody you knew back then was either a DipSet stan or a G-Unit stan. Nikkas was wearing pink. Nikkas was wearing skinny jeans and form fitting shirts, tryna look like rockstars. Nikkas was using the lingo (u mad?, doggie, b, no homo, etc. etc.) You can see Cam's influence in all of these new swag rappers. So.....its like yea, Cam wasn't selling 10x platinum but, damn, the nikka had alot of influence on rap and pop culture.

wow @ people in here comparing camron to people like wiz khalifa & asap rocky.

gtfoh with that disrespect.

NOPE. Even at his peak in '02- '06 he wasn't that popular outside of NY (maybe not even in NY :lupe:). After Hey Ma I don't think I have heard a Cam song on the radio EVER...maybe Dipset Anthem got a couple spins? Dipset's peak was right in the middle of the Maximum Jigga dikkriding Era, G-Unit Era and The South taking over mainstream hip hop. They were big on the internet before internet hip hop was big...

everything said in this post is incorrect. everything is just way off.

all the way down to the internet hip-hop not being big in the mid-00s. chit was big in the '90s b.

from '02-06, the superstar rappers were:

nelly, DMX, 50 cent, jay-z, eminem, kanye and maybe jarule.

i think thats about it.

Do you nikkas not remember how popular T.I. was from 03-09 plz

06-08 alone puts T.I. in superstar status

TI was never a superstar.

he was always a glorified 2nd-tier star. they positioned him well but he couldnt get over the hump.

thought cam had great work ethic :ohhh:

I'm surprised that my block freestyle haven't been posted.

thing is, cam didnt sell out musically(aside from '98).

and dipset was too entrepreneurial.

nikkas wanted to be like Fab ?

yea.

especially back in the early '00s. hes arguably the most socially influential rapper of this century, if you had to narrow it down to 1 guy. people laughed when i made that thread about ghetto fabulous/blueprint, but thats cuz its alot of hermits on here.

people still jockin fab to this day. but back when he came out tho? he was a whole nother beast.

Cam back then imo is kind of what Ross is now. They're not on the level of Jay, Eminem, Drake, Kanye, Wanye

nah he not a superstar but i'll tell you this though...whenever cam comes out to harlem they treat him like he's god...one time this bytch was looking out the window telling her friends she was cooking dinner for her man...one of her friends said cam on 145th park...that bytch left the food and ran downstairs like :gladbron: "where he at?"...let her family starve that night :snoop:

It feels like I'm talking about basketball with this shyt :lolbron: but TI's run from 06-08 was more popping than any of Hov's year

To deny him a superstar status would be wrong.

Cam'ron is his prime set trends and was an hell of a rapper.

Just give that man his props for what he was and what he stood for and keep it moving.

I'm from NYC so to me Cam was definitely a superstar. He's a pop culture icon and has a cult following the whole Dipset movement did. '02 he was definitely a superstar, Platinum album, classic songs/hits like Welcome To NYC, Losing Weight Pt.II, Oh Boy, Hey Ma. He starred in Paid in Full a classic hip hop movie that grossed millions. Dude was a major trendsetter from fashion to slang, the whole rocking pink, the throwbacks, Cam and Dipset were the first nikkas I seen rocking Ed Hardy tees, Ferragamo belts and True Religion jeans. Cam was doing 60 Minutes and going on Fox News compared to guys like Ja Rule and Nelly who sold much more than Cam his music has lived on longer. By the way Diplomatic Immunity might have been only certified Gold, but in the streets it was Diamond one of the most heavily bootlegged albums I've ever seen.

T.I. was never bigger than Hov.
@L. Deezy

In 08 Nas sold 500k off the album "Untitled" , In first week sales for "Paper Trail " T.I. sold 500k :mjlol:
Paper Trail is T.I. at his peak, Untitled is Nas damn near 15 years in. Untitled has provocative subject matter, it talks about politics and racism in the United States. Paper Trail was a pop crossover album with big name features and songs meant for the radio like Live Your Life, Whatever You Like, Swagga Like Us.

I can say it's pretty likely that T.I. won't sell Gold after 15 years in the rap game or when he's nearing 40. It's a poor comparison breh. :manny:

Nas was definitely a superstar for several years with 1996 being his peak. It Was Written has sold over 4 million it was at number one on the Billboards for four consecutive weeks, in the top 20 for eleven weeks, and a total of thirty-four weeks in the top 200 that's impressive. If I Ruled The World and Street Dreams/Street Dreams Remix got regular radio spins. Even Pac called Nas the ringleader/face of the East Coast. Nas videos were being directed by Hype Williams, he was featured on several classic albums in hip hop and R&B, he was the head of The Firm, went Platinum twice in one year only DMX and Pac have done this in '99, he starred in Belly, Stillmatic went 2x Platinum he and Jay had the city on lock in '01 with the beef, '02 God's Son was arguably the best mainstream release it went Plat and The Lost Tapes went Gold with little promotion.

T.I. released his last album in '12 he was like 31 and it was what 9 years after his major label debut. Not comparable, also Nas sold more first week and went Gold quicker.
