And I'm saying even than cats weren't listening to them all like that..but yes they are stars...all I'm saying is that they weren't as popular as cats try to act. And yes they were more popular than dipset I never said they weren't...but look who it is that find them popular. Cats weren't posted on the block listening to the wutang albums...cats ain't have that shyt on smash in their car...shyt wasn't booming at the barbershop....
Actually, yes the Wu was. Niccas may not had been "listening" to the Wutang on the block, yet you couldn't deny the staying power.

Most hood niccas thought Wu wear was wack...Most clothing lines started by or endorsed rap artists wind up being wack anyhow..that's another convo..

Superstardom isn't clarified from the block..

Man as I said...I use to go from Cincinnati to Columbus to Gary and wasn't nobody listening to WU tang...to this day...

Were they superstars in the word that they sold to whites and Asians yes...were they superstars in the hood no not as a group like dipset was...their success came as individual artist.

Jim Jones, Juelz, Cam can still get shows Method, Rakewon, Ghostface can still get shows but can the rest of them nikkas?

Seems you are describing hood stars not superstars

You're more concerned with Ohio than worldwide

You're more concerned with who was listening and not how many people

With what the clothes looked like instead of how many clothes were sold

With who would be at the shows instead of how many people would be there.

I really don't even believe the story of Ohio. Nobody was listening to method man and Mary j? No shimmy shimmy ya. No ghetto superstar. No all I got is you? No ice cream. No triumph? No how high?

Other members couldn't prolly pull off a stadium show. You right. But who coming out to see juelz and jim in 2014. Jim had one hit wrote by max b and I don't think juelz ever had a hit. Cam is the star and you put him up against meth and rza if you want but...... no

You forgot Zeek...

And we overlooked Cams 1st group COC..If you want to look into relevance.

So you are saying, since no NICCAS in the hood/s was bumping Wu...their not as big as superstars...meaning the group..not individuals..?

Are we comparing dipset to wu, or Cam to Wu?

Cuz if That's the case...Method is a very much larger artist than Cam.

Dipset was 4 dudes, Wu tang was 9...The sound scape of music was diff back then..So it's easier for dip to find individual careers as artist, compared to the music of the early 90s, 2 diff generations of kids..

Really, nobody wants to hear old Rza beats unless you are a wu fan, compared to the new sound Cam was able to fukk with.

We are just talking about WU overall of course they are bigger than the dips. worldwide WU was bigger but they weren't this all encompassing everyone listened to group that held the streets down.

@Venem

Juelz had the Whistle Song which was pretty big.. But you made a lot of good points.

Regardless of if Wu had a mostly white or Asian fanbase, that doesn't discredit the Wu Tang brand reaching stardom..

Hood stardom vs worldwide stardom

Is what's being discussed..

And fact of the matter is... the world is bigger than the hood or people you know that do or don't listen to so and so.

Idk anyone that listens to J Cole..But that don't mean shyt when he's selling out tours in and out side the U.S with ease.

its a difference between being a hood superstar and bein a region superstar
a region superstar a be hot for 2 years top and down talk everybody, den fall off and cant come back to his hood or wen he do, he gets no respect

a hood superstar(camron) can go platinum and still come to the hood wen he platinum and wen he not relevant (the mainstream suburb favorite word), he can still come back and fit in cuz he never left....

something u hipsters know nothin bout
if u wasnt around wen dipset was takin over the mixtape game, den u know nothin

Close thread.

I haven't read the whole thread yet but :snoop: already at the people I've seen say that Cam and Dipset weren't even that big when they were popping off. It was Dipset Mania world wide.

That's another thing others have said, that Cam didn't have a global impact. I live in London and Cam and Dipset got mad love here, they had mad love in Paris too, any world city where hip hop is appreciated. People making such comments must have been kids at the time or not hip hop fans. If you were listening to rap music at that time you know Dipset was ruling the game.

Anyway, Cam is a rap superstar and a hood superstar. He might not be as famous as others (Diddy, 50, Jay) but he was a star in the hip hop world and had a big impact on the game. shyt, its 11 years later and everyone still says shyt like "No Homo" or :umad:

Nope. He was never a crossover/Top 40 artist. To be a superstar you gotta have those crossover hits. Cam only has one (Oh Boy) the true superstars in the rap game have serveral.
Overrall con
Radio hits don't make you a superstar. Overrall content does. Cam had that. Fck a Top 40.:umad:
