Settle this debate for me. Was Cam'ron ever a superstar?

Cam was near-superstar status from 2001-2004. He was never Drake-Wayne-Jay-Kanye-Pac levels of popularity but, he was that dude. Kinda like Ross but, more popular. Everybody you knew back then was either a DipSet stan or a G-Unit stan. Nikkas was wearing pink. Nikkas was wearing skinny jeans and form fitting shirts, tryna look like rockstars. Nikkas was using the lingo (u mad?, doggie, b, no homo, etc. etc.) You can see Cam's influence in all of these new swag rappers. So.....its like yea, Cam wasn't selling 10x platinum but, damn, the nikka had alot of influence on rap and pop culture.

Even if people only listened to them on 36 Chambers, that album alone had one of the biggest musical impacts period. That alone would make Wu-Tang superstars, right or wrong?

Nope. Illmatic had a big musicial impact and yet Nas was never a superstar at any point in his career.

No. Come Home With Me he had 2 big hits but he wasn't on the superstar level. After that he wasn't close, but he built a fanbase who worships him tongue in cheek, still recognizing his foolish/goofy moments (Yauze, Complex, biscuitsandbangers)


Cam'ron had a lot of cac hipster fans by 04/05. Those type of fans you mention now would have liked him then if they knew he existed, there were the same type of fans liking him for the same reasons back during his run.

IDK.. Im an Asap fan..but tbh I think they had a large part in contributing to this new age of fake ass Cam'ron fans...their fans consists of a lot of hipsters and hype beasts.

the white cam/dipset fans back then were different than the white cam fans of today. before it was just like lower/middle working class white people living in the upper east coast who actually grew up into hip hop and had friends of many races and weren't completely disconnected ...now its like all these white upper class bearded coffee shop feminist liberal hipsters who type up a paragraph on tumblr about white privilege but deep down inside their scared of blacks and like hip hop in this mockery kinda comedic way cause it's "edgy" and "cool" the same types that LOVE Gucci, Migos and Young Thug and wear Wu Tang clan shirts but dont know nothing for nothing.

TBH looking back.. If Cam never had "Oh Boy" you could agrue that Jim Jones was just as popular if not more popular than Cam himself Jim got more talked about at lunch room tables more than Cam and "Ballin!" was a huge hit and he started the "dress like a rockstar movement"

Good point. "Ballin" had crazy buzz. My teachers were saying that in class and shyt.

Cam'Ron's fan base was almost entirely hip hop heads and that's it. You can't be a superstar if you only cater to rap fans.

I like Cam more then most of the 2000s superstars... but he never had that crossover appeal
