The problem today isn't the type of black movie being made. Its the fact they just arent good movies period. Menace to society is better than any trash azz movie morris chestnut starred in or tyler perry directed. Again. Its not the genre of black movie being made. Its the quality. The last good black romance movie was About last night.

As a 30 year old man I want to see more films that represent the hood experience from the perspective of the kids that were born in the mid to late 90s. Dope is a step in the right direction. As long as theyre done tastefully and not glorifying Im okay with it. I think somewhere out there, there is the next John Singleton, Hugh Bros, Spike Lee that is capable of giving us a modern day Boyz in the hood or Fresh.

Take a look at The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete (2013).

Also Yelling to the Sky (2011).

You can find both online.

Its been done

Dope, The Get Down, ATL, etc

There's a lot of good movies out that represent hood experience from kids not trying to be hood products.

Like i said, check out the "Atlanta" show. It seems like its going to show atl and black culture in a different perspective than what people think
