You're right, Las Vegas will use the arena for many different things. I was under the impression Las Vegas wanted to land the NBA before landing the NHL but knows getting the NHL to come first is more realistic. So if the city proves it can support the NHL well and shows it is a pro sports town (like how OKC has shown since getting the Thunder), getting another pro sports team won't be as hard. Las Vegas is fighting the "you're nothing but a tourist city" type of criticism like how Orlando did in years past before getting pro teams.

I dont think OKC's model is sustainable.

push come to shove, it's still a shyt market and unappealing for pro athletes. they caught lightning in a bottle by hitting home runs in 3 consecutive drafts 07 (KD) ,08 (:russ:/Ibaka), 09 (Harden), but OKC hasn't proven the ability to land any free agents of significance and anyone they get is going to have to come via trade and they'll have to overpay them to stay.

NBA players should not be getting bent over if there's a labor stoppage. there are other leagues in the world that will pay a premium for NBA talent. even JR smith was ballin in china earning a 7 figure pay day in 2011 and allowed to get out of that deal as soon as the NBA resumed.

Yup, but if these fukkin idiots drop the drawz on this deal they are morons.

besides the MLB, name me the pro sports player union that hasn't bent over and grabbed their ankles in recent years when it comes to labor negotiations. even the NHL stood their ground and threw an entire season in the :bushess: in 04/05.

you think NBA or NFL unions are gonna risk that???

NBA has the best chance of standing tall though. We'll see. They got 2 years to save.

We know the NFLPA are hoes.

Some players won't play overseas for various reasons but if the league suffers a lock out, guys will have to make that money elsewhere. Sometimes I wish there was a second major pro league like the ABA just for the sake of competition and if something messed up happens to one league, there would still be some bit of continuity. I wonder how things would be if the NBA had a major rival in terms of pay and fame. It would give players more options.

Just remember that Silver works for the owners... They just trying to fukk the players out of every possible dollar in the CBA coming up...

shyt is gonna be ugly... and that's why the players in the PA have told the players to save their game checks because this could be a long lockout

I feel like this is their reaction to the video. The Marlins President was so smug in that video it doesn't help any franchises as far as getting public money. I hope cities start calling their bluff. I'd love the fukkery of the Des Moines Bucks or the Albuquerque Suns or the Lincoln Bulls.

These owners have the game down pat. KC got baited into thinking they were going to get an NBA or NHL team and all they did was force the home team to get into a stadium bidding war.

This is my proposal. Stop having state and city taxes pay for new arenas across the entire country.
Each team has to build their own arena/stadium on their own dime. If they only have a million to spend, then they can build a one-million dollar arena.
Or, they can cut salaries and build a $10 milly stadium. Or they can cut coach, players and owners salaries and build a $40 million stadium. The thing is that they can double the use of their stadium as their practice facility. And they can also rent it out for shows. A lot of college teams own their own stadium/arena. They paid for it, not have taxes go up so they can fund it. Private investors get involved for college stadiums and arenas.

If I had a new restaurant I wanted to build, I don't ask the city to fund the building and tax the citizens. I have to either rent a building or build one and take on a mortgage.
They need to restructure it all so that the players should take a pay cut only on the basis of the owner funding a stadium and not the city or state. That or live with a tiny 1,000 seat arena and hope to make money on the broadcast of games on television.
