so 3.9 yards per rush makes you a HOF these days?

jackson couldve have been a hof if he didnt get hurt all of the time

The Steelers franchise definitely gave Bus that extra push. Fringe guys like Taylor, Frank Gore, Jamal Lewis, Dillon, Watters probably will never get in but deserve it if Bus is in.

some of yall are just looking at box scores and not looking at the whole picture. Defenses were able to key on bettis. So for him to put up these numbers when you know defenses are gunning for you is amazing. Look at the qbs he played with. Kordell? Mike tomzak?

I may have reached on my TD hate...

but...
yall don't respect longevity/consistency/reliability as much as you should
lets look at this from a qualification standpoint and state a minimum
can we agree that if a running back has at least 8 1000yard seasons they should get to the hall

Cant wait till Hines is eligible for the 3rd year to return to this type of argument

It's not amazing at all. Among all RBs in the HOF, he has the lowest YPC. You act like he was different because he had shyt QBs. That's not so unique.

I feel you on this but i feel like we have to make an exception for Terrell Davis. but if you let TD IN, then you start to make a case for a lot of other running backs.

That means Fred Taylor and Mojo going get Hall of Fame Jackets :blessed:

:troll:

Fred Taylor was an amazing RB with so much talent. I mean he was basically a 230lb shifty back.. He was hurt in the beginning of his career but he still Johnny Rambo'd (R.I.P Ruck) out almost 12,000 career rushing yds..

He was an awesome talent..

Ehh, I see both sides of the argument. He's got the stats but I can't ever say when I thought of Jerome Bettis I thought of an all time great. I wouldn't complain about him being in the HoF with some of the other folks in there though

Longevity is great but it doesn't mean you are a hall of famer :mjpls:

I could see how some people might think Bettis is a compiler if you didn't watch him play but there is something to be said for dominance even in a relatively short time frame.. Its the Hall of Fame not the Hall of pretty good..

Terrell Davis dominated the NFL during his time.

The Hall of Fame in my opinion is for dominant football players

ypc doesnt tell the whole story though. Curtis Martin was 4.0. Are you saying he doesnt belong in the hall either?
1. YPC is far more important than total yards
2. I was never a big fan of Martin either, but he at least had breakaway speed and was more dynamic. What made him a lock for the HOF was his amazing 2004 season when he was already in his 10th season. He had almost 2,000 yards from scrimmage that year. Bus' best season was when he was a rookie.

The Passage of Time
All you need to know about the bus is, the 4 and 5 minute offense was his signature. He was the equivalent to a closer in baseball. First Down after First Down and the clock tick tock.

You can have a completely mediocre season and gain 1,000 yards. Steven Jackson and Frank Gore has 8 1,000 yard seasons. Fred Taylor, Corey Dillon, Edgerrin James, Eddie George, Jamal Lewis Ricky Watters all have 7. Are they all either HOF or borderline?

Some of the people in this thread wouldn't put in Adrian Peterson if he retired today either. Which would be lunacy
