TBH this kind of stuff is why wrestling fans seem like weirdos. Only in this gated community do people give fake fights star ratings.

Name me another TV or film medium where people judge the fight scenes with number or star ratings? What star rating does Van Damme get for the main event in Bloodsport ? :scust:

This is why nobody cares about wrestling now. This mark Meltzer scrambling the fans brains.

I just wanna know how im supposed to be fully invested in a 50 minute wrestling match where I dont even know what the feud is, I dont even know the language of the commentary.

When we were kids and wrestling was actually popular, none of us were judging matches based on how great they were, we were into it cuz of the angles and we wanted to see who would win. Thats why a supposed "bad" match like Shawn vs Austin at mania 14 had a huge impact. HBK kids were in shambles, Austin fans were :lawd:

Tell me what matches nowadays give you that feel really. Now were just giving both guys respect for putting on a great match (where nobody cares at all who won), and aint nobody watching.:shaq2:

Enjoy your six star match that you can only discuss in your small gated community brehs :manny:

It was a dope match but I'm a pretty casual NJPW watcher. Also this part is on me but since I didn't watch live, none of the near falls affected me since I knew there were 10 minutes left.

I'd argue that there's more people watching PPVs due to the network but less people watching RAW/SD. Some of those non-Big 4 PPVs would be lucky to get more than 300k buys now almost a million people watch them monthly.

What the hell are you even talking about? :dahell: You're taking this contrarian too cool for school wrestling fan thing to an asinine level. It was an entertaining action packed match that told a story. No one even said that you had to respect the star rating system anyway.

Some "fake fights" are better constructed than others. If you don't know the background of the match it should take you less than 5 minutes to look online and get some details. Don't dismiss a great match just because of a language barrier.

I don't disagree.

Omega actually topped his five star matches with Naito and Goto, and Naito/Tana before it, and Okada damn near died on that Dragon Suplex from the top rope.

Kenny broke so much ground - conceivably moving up an entire weight division, taking over Bullet Club, upsetting a red hot Naito to later become the first gaijin to win G1 Climax - that you believed he could actually usurp the face of the company.

Okada delivered a hell of a beating, took a harder one, and showed that he is truly the ace of New Japan.

Limb damage, reversals of reversals, impeccable timing and spots, fighting spirit, avoiding a finisher like the death, taking three finishers and still threatening like a terminator...

Add in the atmosphere - the air of uncertainty, a company's fate in the balance, stable bragging rights on the line, being a true main event in a card that increased in importance and match quality over several HOURS...

There's certainly hyperbole in Dave's rating...but if the match can get rave reviews by those who don't even grasp the context...imagine how it felt for folks who did.

The match deserved 5 stars without question, and it most certainly was one of the best matches ever wrestled so if Meltzer takes it 1 step further then so be it.

It wasnt perfect, but lets not put blinders on and act like all the other 5 star matches in history were perfect either
Shawn Michaels-Undertaker was a perfect match, man. It really was.

Wrestlemania 25?

:francis:

With a botch that damn near killed the Undertaker?

With them spending like 10 minutes of the match laying on the ground?

No. Its a 4.5 star match and still somehow the most overrated match in WWE history, not sure how thats even possible

Their Hell in a Cell match was better

It didnt kill him. In fact you cant play that card when omega damn near murdered okada this week but thats a goat match ALLEGEDLY.

Two seasoned wrestlers just " laying on the ground " works if the story of the match is the two of them pouring everything they have into one match and giving it 100% ...it builds tension....thats called selling
