You mean the version with the original Machine Gun Funk by Premo?

Sadat X is on a track too i forget which

Is this it?

IWW came out July 2, 1996. So Illmatic went gold before the second album, or any single from it, dropped.
I don’t know why you’re bringing up other albums and when they went gold. I didn’t say anything about how quickly the album sold. It was a slow burn. It kept selling. Week after week. And it went gold. It sold well. In its initial album run.
Cause nas had more hype coming in, still just as much hype as the rest while they were popping... yet still sold far slower/less with the so called “greatest album ever”?

Hence the correlation to the bootlegs negative impact on the albums sales....

No to every single one.
There’s only 4 albums on there even on the same level as Illmatic.

None of this has anything to do with what I said.
Illmatic went gold in its initial album run. Fact.
It sold well. Fact.

i had a copy on cassette. copied from my friends older brother. was too young to be buying shyt with my own money then like that. was able to cop IWW legitimately when it dropped though.

i remember it aint hard to tell dominated rap city's saturday top 10 for a long time at the number 1 slot. not sure how the sales were bc i wasnt following that shyt when i was a kid but for almost a year straight i heard the album everywhere

I agree that to me this isn't the holy trinity of rap albums..

But if you reflect at Nas's age, the rhymes he was kicking etc vs the rappers today at his age...
Oh he is a great rapper.....I like and own the album. Bought it in the stores when it came out. Just being real it ain't the end all be all like it's made out to be

Honestly, it didn't become the greatest album ever until years later. It definitely was a slow burn of an album. Doesn't take anything away from Nas or the album.

Wasn’t it recorded after Illmatic tho? More in early IWW sessions? Or more likely in that Mo Murder, Verbal Intercourse phase.
I believe it was early IWW
“Chris Winston - Yes I produced Deja Vu. It was well after Illmatic when Nas started working on It Was Written. He wrote the lyrics to Deja Vuwith me then ended up using the 1st Verse on Raekwon's joint.”
