Yo!! My folks did this too, sometimes incorporating beans and rice too. Called it haystacks. We was so used to it, but it was years later, much later, I learned it was not as common as we thought it was. An SDA thing

Agreed! But did you guys call it that? Idk why mine called in haystacks and not taco salad which clearly it is, but i guess it was something they took from church.

I asked some people if they knew what it was at the job a while back (midwesterners), and they thought i was talking about some dessert i guess with the same name

Dang, I think this is when shyt changed for me. Becoming familiar with the carnecerias we have in abundance in AZ. And latino (oriented) market chain like food city, with all the marinated meats, places my parents didn't patronize when we were kids. But they were from the Midwest and didn't know no better. And ground beef was a relatively cheap meal compared to some arrachera
Yea same here.

We had plenty of those markets growing up, but my parents never went to them.

Growing up with Mexican friends I know about them now and I'll get some asada and marinated chicken from there.

Growing up is realizing Mexicans don't even use lettuce or cheese on tacos and burritos like we do lol.

That's still one of my go tos. I've had way better Mexican food, we got a bunch of authentic restaurants and food trucks here but some time you just want to go back to the old tried and true.

Or I'll do the smashed up tortilla chips or doritos and throw all the ingredients on or tostado shells with the refried beans on it.

Nah I call mine gringo nachos since I would see it called that at Mexican restaurants.

I could go for some tacos rn ngl

There’s this Mexican taco truck like half a block from my house.

Their suadero tacos with onions, cilantro and spicy chili sauce :banderas:

Another spot is like a 5 min bike ride away, they got the Al pastor on a spit over the open flame :whew:

Cali definitely got the taco game on padlock

It's definitely some west coast shyt cuz my east coast family didn't even know what a burrito was when they came down here.

But moms browning some ground beef, getting some shredded cheese and tortillas was a staple meal growing up.

I'm seeing it as "Cac shyt" online.
It’s cac/gringo shyt to Mexicans since it was created by Taco Bell and not authentic Mexican, but it’s nikka shyt to suburban whites and negroes that eat Chipotle 3 times a week.
