You talking about education is this country right now?

Excel at education = memorize, regurgitate and repeat to pass a class that has nothing to do with real life. Just stay in line, take on all that debt and follow everybody else.

But I digress...if school was relatively free like starting a baseball team is you may be on to something but it's not. Grade schools aren't adequately preparing black men for high school, the high schools aren't preparing us for college and college aren't preparing us for the real world. We would have to blow the whole system up and take a more hands on approach to our children's education from the jump.
One could argue that parents, not schools, are responsible for guiding a kid to success

School is just a tool available to that end

Its true that schools vary greatly in quality. I am doing work for NYC DOE now and some of the shyt I'm seeing is eye opening. But on the flip side, theres def a correlation between parent involvement in a kid's education and the kid's outcome. I'm sure the next comment from some folks is "not all parents can be there for their kids"... etc... which brings other questions... but I'll let people ask em. Point though is I think people put too much responsibility on schools and not on parents.

That's an idea if not nothing else! a starting point, anything to get the ball rolling.

There is nothing that truly prepares you for life besides living it. Now that aside even though education is not always the key to success it's been proven to be a foundation that gets you ahead of those not so fortunate to complete school. A foundation that sets you up to embrace more challenges and a path to be in the economic ladder. And education is not just limited to universities , there are trade schools that are just as valuable if not more than a 4 year degree. For exm: Did you know as an underwater weldsman you make 6 figures?

I think black people in general have gotten comfortable with blaming others for failure and then expecting to be taken care of as a result. I feel there are enough FREE resources available to everyone that can aid in building success.

Parents can instill your values and help you develop a work ethic, but they can't teach you what they don't know. If your parents never went to college or graduated high school, there's only so much they can do outside of making sure you go to school everyday and completing your assignments.

Right, I remember those threads. nikkas wanted to run in talmbout they ain't taking care of nobodies kids. But then when a video comes up like the one with the ratchet ass mother and kids causing a ruckus, nikkas wanna talk about how it's a damn shame. I say if you won't do anything to fix the problem then you shouldn't be speaking on it.

Also single mothers are the scum of the earth, yet nikkas always run around talking bout how they are never getting married. :what: how you think single mothers get created?

The only way we can be better is if we actually stand up and do better. People always complain about what somebody is doing to them or not doing for them, but in reality the only person that controls your destiny is you.

but see thats why i said it pointless on this website
these nikkas lame as fukk and wanna be white
look at how they treat white women smh
dog i NEVER heard black nikkas talk about white women liek they do on here

how nikkas gone progress if the ones they have already reached success are not willin to help?

its gone create a gap to where in order to achieve success you have to completely seperate yourself from those less fortunate

i seen with my own eyes somebody come in my thread and call me ghetto, hood, poor, dumb dont even knoe me at all
then turn around and be like imma proud black person

shyt confusing either you gone be a real nikka or keep it moving
stop commenting on black people if all you gone do is complain

That is the most important part.

Thats true, and I wasnt saying it was the parents' duty to actually teach the kids the material

But just being on kids asses and getting to know their teachers, etc, goes a long way. And in any case, parents who haven't graduated high school are the exception, not the rule, even within the black community. So thats a situation that needs to be addressed but its nowhere near a normal one. Most parents know how school works and can read.

the problem is that other avenues of success or not that easy to find
rappers, entertainers, athletes success stories are everywhere for young black dudes to gravitate towards

no other lanes are presentable to them and even if they are...it seems so foriegn to them they cant fully understand the dedication and motivation it took...

name one black success story we have outside of Jayz, obama, or some other mainstream bullshyt?
one black ceo story? black invention story? we aint got none

the dudes that truly want success are gonna get it however
the drug game killed off alot of black doctors, scientist, lawyers
thats a big ass gap we still aint bounced back from...the dope game( crack specifically)...it had the same effects as slavery
lil dudes need to be motivated in different ways besides the athlete, rapper, entertainer image

but i agree wit you just addin my lil 2 cents

Although their plenty of them, they're just not popularized. As far as success stories, you had a former CEO(possibly still there) of AMEX. Many notable things were invented by blacks. Henry T. Sampson invented the Gamma Electric cell, the traffic light are just some of the stuff we invented.

Post these stats. If you don't I'm going to research them and post them my self. We (as in black man) need to see the reality we in, we can talk about what all those socioeconomic forces are but what are we doing to combat them beside saying oh well the deck is stacked against me so fukk it.

Here are some. It was kind of time consuming to find all the credible sources so if you guys want more then you will have to add on to what I am about to post:

Health
Black men 18 years and over who currently smoke: ......23.7%
Black men 20 years and over who are overweight: ........71.8%
Black men 20 years and over with hypertension: ............41.4%
Source: CDC Health, United States report, 2010

In 2009, black men accounted for 70% of the estimated new HIV infections among all blacks. The estimated rate of new HIV infection for black men was more than six and a half times as high as that of white men, and two and a half times as high as that of Latino men or black women.

Nationally, more than two-thirds (67.6 percent) of black men who start college do not graduate within six years, which is the lowest college completion rate among both sexes and all racial/ethnic groups in higher education.

i agree 100%

to even take it further the success story of a rapper, entertainer, athlete, drug dealer is told over and over and over so explicitly

its to the point where thats the only story of success we can hold on to

we dont have the "my father/uncle/cousin built this company with his bare hands type stories"
