State of Play made me realize something concerning about Sony.

They no longer have to go hard on first party ip since they are now the default console of choice. Also with no competion the price is going up on services, games and hardware. Basically these nikkaz going to be doing Nintendo prices.

Arrogant Sony about to come full and effect on that ass.

Look at what happened to Intel when they lost all competition in the space. They started re-releasing processors barely changed and their development pipeline went to shyt. I'm sorry but companies need competition to keep them honest. Intel is a wreck now because for years nobody pushed them and the company got complacent.

Because my competitors are ran by idiots who ran their brand into the ground, you want Playstation to do exactly what? Of course you want competition, but if it ain't there, what do you do?

Nintendo WAS competition but went full mobile and hybrid ( coincidentally created the Brand/Company that did them in on console side hilariously).

PC and Nintendo are the competition that is left. It is what it is.

Blame Phil and the Gang, but not Sony.

Go back forth with someone saying Sony thinks they don't have to go hard on first party IP right after they wasted $400 million dollars on an awful attempt to start a first party IP, brehs.

It's not Sony's fault but let's also be honest that if they had a real competitor that live service debacle wouldn't have played out like that. They might have done a few games but they seem to have shifted a majority of studios to live service projects and as a result you have remasters of damn near every already playable on the PS5 PS4 game because the game pipeline suffered and they needed to release something.

Real competition means they focus more on what they do best than experimentation with stuff they have no business doing at that level.

My only concern is that with all these cancellations, studios like Bend, Bluepoint etc. have to start from scratch meaning their next games are likely PS6 games.

The person in charge of the live service games initiative is gone. At least they realized the error of their way early instead of their competitor who continues to have someone keep his position despite tanking their hardware.

We don't know if that will be the case either. But you said it in the first line, it's not their fault. So cats need to stop blaming them and blame their main direct competition for being bad at their jobs for a decade plus now.

What gave them the freedom to go all in on live service was a lack of a credible threat to their business model. As gamers people noticed the drop in first party releases but even now if you look at sales this had a minimal impact on that.

I still say companies are at their best when they can steal ideas and concepts from each other and improve upon them and are at their worst when they are monopolies that dictate how the market goes.

AMD quits on the high end graphics card market and it's no coincidence that the 5080 is the first 80 series card in a long time that is weaker than the previous generation's 90 series card. Undoubtable stuff like this will happen in consoles as there really isn't any competition anymore. When they vanquish their foes and no longer have to focus on acquiring customers enshytification happens.

Pretty sure sony went all in on GAAS because the ‘competition’ was going on a buying spree of every major 3rd party publisher. People were actively saying, “Sony is screwed they have no live service games” once the threat of losing Activision & Blizzard games were on the table.

Thats what competition did, it also caused them to delve further in on subscription gaming and eventually started raising prices.

The best generations Sony had, had no close competitors, Playstation 1 did 100m, N64 and Sega Saturn did under 40m combined. Ps2 did 150, GameCube, Dreamcast and xbox did under 50m combined while Playstation 2 did 150m

the only generation where Sony had legit competition was the 7th gen. Playstation has dominated the home console market for 30 years, this talk of ‘competition’ is nonsense and only started once Microsoft started failing last generation

You still blaming Sony for their competition's incompetence
