Steph Curry may be unstoppable but is there another way to defend him

Which poses the big question, how do you stop klay while trying to keep curry from breaking down your defense at the same time? all it takes is a few stops on the defensive end by GS, they push it up the floor, next thing you know Klay hits 3 straight 3's ina row. you look up at the end of the quarter and Klay has 15+ points in the quarter.

It will be very tough because he has gotten better at attacking the basket and finishing at the rim this year and he is very confident right now. He was inconsistent and tentative in the playoffs last year, but this year he is on a roll.

switching is the best option. if hes going to make step back 3s over 7 footers all game you have to just tip your hat to them.

trapping only leads to layups and wide open 3s. the 3ball saves their asses time and time again. whoever is going to beat them is going to have to make some of their own.

instead of switching pick and rolls and having C's or PF's guard him 1 on 1 25 ft. away from the rim? After watching the WCF's and constantly seeing Ibaka, Kanter and Adams having to guard the player with the best shot and handles in the league I was at how this can be allowed by coaches.

I'm thinking that maybe blitzing Steph on his pick and rolls and trapping him, forcing the ball out of his hands with your defense tied together and rotating might be better than just switching. I remember the Heat during the Heatles era doing this very effectively. Of course this also takes effort and dedication by your defense but then again isn't that what defense is all about?

I'm hoping that the Cavs find a better way to play Steph off the pick and roll instead of just switching and leaving a Frye, Love or Thompson to guard him above the 3pt line. If the Cavs switch the pick and roll they have no chance to beat the Warriors. Trapping it will get the ball out of Steph's hands and force Green, Iggy, Barnes and others to make plays while of course staying attached to Klay.

I'll take my chances with those guys making the plays instead of letting the unanimous MVP go 1 on 1 with a big man on the perimeter. What are you're thoughts about the switching of the pick and roll vs Curry and how would you defend it?

Length ain't really what you need, you need somebody that can just be a pestering headache, The scrub at the gym that won't let you breath (kinda like what Deli was) but with actually good defense. If the guy has length then that helps. But you have to play him for the jumper and not the drive , which is against all conditioning. I literally watch Curry and he is in love with a quick release sexy jumper step back over anything. He will pass up a lane, or a head start on beating his man into the lane, just to pull back and do some east to west dribbling to shoot the jay. Take away his jumper and let him go inside and rely on floaters and high layups and finishing in contact which are the weakest parts of his game. Also defender have to not panic. You can tell everybody so fearful at a millisecond of steph open that they overplay and are frantic, while curry is completely composed and controlled in what he is going to do.

Steph's shooting ability is otherworldly and defending him goes against conventional basketball wisdom and instinct that's been drilled into these dudes since they've been playing.

This dude grabs an ungodly amount of attention on offense.

The Heat beat the Spurs in 7 games in 2013, yes. But they also let Danny Green break an NBA Finals record for 3s.

In 2014, the Spurs were a better team and had even more shooters. Diaw was hitting 3s as a stretch 4, Patty Mills was in shape, Ginobili wasn't turning it over like a mad man.

The weaknesses from 2013 were magnified even greater.

Golden State has more than enough shooting and cutting to the basket players to counter a blitz trapping scheme. And they have multiple ball handlers like the Spurs have.

No there is no "other way" to defend him. You can't defend him. There's a reason no one has figured him out in 2 years. There's a reason the Warriors broke the 72 win record. You CAN'T defend him yourself. Your only hope is for him to go cold and miss shots like he did in the first several games of the 2015 Finals and the WCF this year. But the thing is he won't go cold for an entire series, a few games maybe but not an entire series because he'll eventually find his shot and when he does you're fukked.

Play him tight? Best handles in the league so he'll blow by you and either dish to an open shooter or finish at the rim, which he's statistically the best finisher at the rim in the league.

Double team off the pick? He'll find Draymond who will 9 times out of 10 make the right decision in the 4 on 3 situation.

Deny him? They'll just screen you to death until he gets open.

Oh and by some chance he's off, you have to deal with that other Top 5 shooter of all time in Klay Thompson. If either one of them is on and in the zone you're at their mercy.

Just give it up. If pro NBA coaches that dedicate their lives to this shyt can't figure him out then no one on the Coli is.
