Mark Jackson was a starter coach. One of those guys that nurtures young teams and gets them to be a good (yet flawed) team. Like Doug Collins, Scott Skiles, Scott Brooks, etc.
He was what the Warriors needed at a time, but he didn't get better as a coach as his players kept getting better. They wouldn't be a contender under Jackson.
Kerr brought good assistants, instilled a new offense, unleashed Curry, philosophically challenged and connected with his key players, energized the second unit, was always composed out there, and brought a championship culture and insight. Luke Walton is being an extension of Kerr, and actually not fukking things up this season. That is a huge accomplishment.
Jackson deserves another job, but he needs to tone his ego down. Also it's just really a bad look when the team looks 100 times better when a rookie coach steps in. Either Jackson was holding them back or Kerr is a prodigy. 17 win improvement plus championship?
