Define Superstar?

Vince Carter was a superstar, Grant Hill was a superstar, Penny Haradway was a superstar. So why can't Haliburton be a superstar?

I thought Brunson was underrated as hell when he came to that team, people were calling it a nepotism hire and thought his run during the Mavs playoff push was a fluke.

I disagree. Sometimes, your play and accomplishments supercede whatever the “box office” may show. Jokic is a superstar (3x MVP and champion; many regard him as the best player in the NBA). SGA is entering that territory (3 straight 30ppg seasons, 2x #1 seed, MVP on the verge of the Finals). Haliburton is not there yet.

How can your accomplishments make you a superstar if people don't know what you accomplished or who you are?

You can be a star of your sport and not be a superstar. If your stardom does not extend beyond fans of your sport or business then you are not a superstar. Taylor Swift is a superstar, everyone knows who she is. Lainey Wilson is not.

Ken Grriffey Jr. was a superstar. Dale Murphy was not. One of those players is a 2 time MVP. I'll let you guess which one.

So you’re saying popularity is the only thing that determines superstar status? Angel is my girl, but she isn’t a top five or top ten player in the league.

I saw earlier you said Duncan wasn’t a superstar and I disagree with that as well. If you’re a top 3 player in the entire league, you’re a superstar by default.

These definitions have been conveniently inconsistent over the years. When people say superstar in an NBA context, which they casually say all the time, they're often talking about performance. Duncan and Jokic are referred to as superstars. Even Donovan Mitchell and Brunson get that superstar label.

Then people want to redefine and combine it with upper echelon off the court popularity (or come up with new terms like megastar) often times to elevate their favorite or preferred players over those that routinely bust their ass (pause)... so Allen Iverson or Carmelo Anthony are superstars but Duncan and Dirk were not.

It's honestly whatever makes ppl sleep better, as Hali don't need to be a "superstar" anymore than Duncan; your big market team and superstar player still gotta deal with him bustin they ass and taking their Finals spot.

He is not a superstar, he is too corny, unlikable and inconsistent. He will turn it on in the fourth but he don't dominate like a Bron or Kobe. He is just a good player in a good system.

A star but not a superstar. Case in point put him in Rucker park or on another team and see what he does versus if you did the same to a KD. KD would take over and give you 30+ if he needs too.
